Bucket List CHECKED! My very FIRST Ski!

And it was WORTH IT! I was born in tropical country so the sight of snowy mountain excites me so much! Never ever tried skiing before and I must say, it was fun only on a gentle slope. The speed is apparently not my thing 😂 Fell so many times (in so many different positions) but happily reporting I’m back without serious injury (expect sore knees and calves). Overall happy with the experience and read through some more details below that might be useful if you plan to go! Tips: 1. Check weather forecast and if possible choose a sunny day to visit! You can see the difference from my photos, the day I tried ski it was snowing badly but the next day it was all blue sky and sunny! 2. They have WechatMiniApp to hire a professional coach for different levels (ski or snowboard), but usually full on same day. BOOK BEFORE YOU GO! Search 长白山度假区社员 on Wechat. Do not choose hotel’s suggestions, illegal coach and definitely not safe for beginners (don’t fall for the cheaper price). 3. Although most hotels are international chains, it is not so easy to communicate in English. Equip yourself with basic conversational skill and vocabulary (or just ask them to send messages to Wechat so you can translate) 4. Ski gears: boots, boards, and helmet are usually included in hotel room’s price (check when you book your hotel). Additional rental: jacket & pants ¥60, goggles ¥40. And you’ll need ¥2000 as deposit to activate Ski Card (used for all these rentals, taking ski lift, magic carpet, and gondola). It’ll be fully refunded on the last day. ———————— Getting There - take a flight to Baishan Changbaishan Airport (NBS) and there are red shuttle buses on parking lot taking you to most hotels (just tell the driver which hotel are you going to, they’ll point to the right bus). Around 20mins drive to hotels on Wanda Ski Resort. 2hours+ to North Slope’s hotel, like Crowne Plaza. Attractions - Ski Resort Hotels - plenty of options depending on your budget and preferences. • closest to Ski Entrance: Wanda Hotel / Hyatt & Park Hyatt. • closest to Hannasan Hotspring: Hyatt & Park Hyatt. • Westin & Sheraton location is slightly farther to main ski entrance but still walkable. • Holiday Inn has its own cable car to the main area, but rather far and also directly on a high slope. Definitely not for beginners. • Crowne Plaza is in North Slope. Has its own hotspring and ski area. • Swissôtel is one of the popular choice, too, but I didn’t see it during my whole trip (I stayed at Sheraton and spotted all above hotels mentioned, except Crowne Plaza as it is on different area) Food & Restaurants - Korean Foods (yes, because it is bordering North Korea!) and 东北菜 North East Chinese Cuisines. Shopping - ski clothes and accessories. Ginseng and medicinal mushrooms. Black pears. Vegan friendliness - OK! Hotels’s breakfasts are fine. Restaurants are generally happy to modify dishes per your request. #skiadventure #changbaishan #bucketlist #chinatrip #skiresorts
