Shitou Ancient Village, Wenchang, Hainan

Shitou Village, formerly known as Shitao Village, is located in Dading Village, Tanniu Town, Wenchang City, Hainan Province. According to the 1918 "Wenchang County Annals," during the Ming dynasty, Jinshi XING Zuochang and his entourage rode through the eastern plain of the county. They saw a vast grassland with lush bamboo grass. The southern wind blew, and the green grass rolled like a dragon emerging from the water and galloping horses. The Jinshi was deeply moved and named it "Longma" (Dragon Horse), meaning that building a home and living here would bring prosperity and vitality. In addition to the XING Zuochang Jinshi Archway, Shitou Village also preserves dozens of ancient Qiongbei dwellings. These old houses are neatly arranged, with front and back doors aligned, reflecting the harmonious neighborly relations and ethics of the villagers. It is one of the fifth batch of Chinese traditional villages.
