The Mountain Resort covers an area of 5.64 million square meters, inheriting and developing the Chinese classical garden philosophy of 'man-made beauty blending with nature'. Making use of the natural terrain, it adapts to the mountains and waters, following nature's course, and is a very creative masterpiece. Palace Area The palace buildings are dense and are a miniature of the Forbidden City, serving as the place for handling state affairs and holding grand ceremonies. It includes the main palace, Songhe Zhai, Wanhe Songfeng, and Donggong, four groups of buildings. The main palace area is now a museum with over 20,000 precious cultural relics. Garden Scenery Area The garden scenery area is divided into the lake area, the plain area, and the mountainous area. Lake Area: The essence of the garden scenery area, where Emperor Kangxi once boasted that 'the natural scenery surpasses that of the West Lake'. Most of the buildings are constructed in imitation of famous sites in the south of the Yangtze River, with the Misty Rain Tower being built in the shape of the one in Jiaxing, Zhejiang. It is also the filming location for the Shuangfang Pavilion in the TV series 'My Fair Princess'. Plain Area: Dominated by grasslands and forests, it is the venue for horse racing events. It includes the Wanshu Garden and the Wenjin Pavilion, one of the four great book collections.
