Underground Galaxy/Waitomo Glowworm Caves

Waitomo, located on New Zealand's North Island, is renowned for its stunning underground caves and glowworm displays! On this trip to Waitomo, I participated in the Black Water Rafting activity. Dressed in a wetsuit, equipped with a safety helmet and headlamp, and carrying an inner tube, we set off for the underground caves. After a short walk, we waded through the underground cave waters. As the water got deeper, we began floating along the underground river. Along the way, we encountered small waterfalls, requiring us to lean back and jump into the water. Finally, lying on the inner tube, we gazed up at the glowing blue light of the glowworms—a thrilling and fun experience. For accommodation, I recommend the "Waitomo Big Bird B & B," located not far from the caves. This is a farmstay with animals like alpacas, ostriches, cows, horses, rabbits, and cats. The friendly hosts even let you feed the animals. The most amusing part? Waking up in the morning to find an ostrich peering through your window 👀, as if saying, "Had a good sleep?" In summary, if you're traveling to New Zealand and want to see glowworms in caves, Waitomo is my top recommendation. It's much more exciting than taking a boat to see glowworms on the South Island!
