London Zoo: A Photographer's Paradise!

It's been a while since my last visit, but today I discovered many familiar faces at the London Zoo. My friends and I were amazed to find so many animals from China, including the Chinese three-striped box turtle and the Chinese crocodile lizard. New additions like the Mangshan pit viper and the bicolor spiny tree frog were also a delight to see. Although I couldn't capture the elusive frogs on camera, the other animals were quite photogenic and active, except for the naturally sedentary ones. The zoo's layout and exhibits are excellent, providing a fun search experience without making it too difficult to find the animals. The relationship between visitors and animals is well-managed, allowing for unobtrusive observation and many exhibits without barriers, perfect for close-up photography without a telephoto lens. I was thrilled to capture the courtship behavior of the Chinese crocodile lizard! However, the relocation of the reptile house meant the absence of some old favorites like the South American bushmaster and the Peruvian crocodile lizard, which was a bit disappointing. The conservation studios have been updated with more completed and ongoing research projects. I remember when the little ones in P12 were new arrivals and not on display, but now they are a permanent exhibit and look stunning! In summary, plan for at least three and a half hours for a quick tour, or longer if you want to take your time. The zoo closes at 4 PM in winter, so arriving at 11 AM is ideal.
