Amami Oshima Diving

Amami Oshima (大島) is the main island of the Amami Islands in Kagoshima Prefecture, located in the sea south of Kyushu, almost halfway between Kagoshima City and the main island of Okinawa. When not confused with other islands, it is simply called Oshima (大島, or Ushima in the Amami dialect). It is also sometimes referred to as Oshima Main Island in contrast to the other islands in the Amami Islands. It is home to sandy beaches where sea turtles come to lay their eggs, the crystal clear blue sea also known as Amami Blue, and virgin forests that resemble ancient forests. The surrounding sea areas such as the Oshima Strait coast and Honohoshi Coast, as well as mountain areas such as Yuwandake, are part of the Amami Gunto National Park. The southern part of the island is particularly rich in nature, with many rare species of creatures to be seen, and in Setouchi Town, which is the number one producer of farmed bluefin tuna in Japan, you can also enjoy dishes made with bluefin tuna and Ryukyu wild boar. On July 26, 2021, the diversity of flora and fauna was recognized and it was decided to register Amami as the fifth World Heritage Site in Japan, along with Tokunoshima, northern Okinawa Island, and Iriomote Island. #Amami #AmamiOshima #Diving
