Mount Tsukuba is full of charm

Mount Tsukuba is about a two-hour drive from Tokyo. Also, it takes 45 minutes from Akihabara on the Tsukuba Express, or 40 minutes by bus from Tsukuba Station. At the base of Mount Tsukuba is Tsukubasan Shrine, and from there it's a 10-minute cable car ride to the observation deck. Just the observation deck is fine, but if you like mountain climbing, we recommend heading further up to the summit.
