Wuzhen Water Town Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Visit Wuzhen and heed the advice of the locals
If you only want to visit one ancient town, then I recommend Wuzhen🥲. Here is a worry-free guide that doesn't involve retracing your steps, be sure to save it~
🚗Transportation advice: Friends nearby can choose to drive or take a bus, with departures from Hangzhou West Lake or Shanghai, costing only a few dozen per person, saving more time💯.
✅Tongxiang travel: You can check the bus schedule, there are also buses at night~ Remember to apply for the Tongxiang ride code in advance👌.
⚠Avoid pitfalls guide: You must take this part seriously❗
1⃣During the winter vacation, Xizha has many performances🎶, such as night lantern festivals, water markets, lantern boat parades, and lantern bridge walks for blessings, which will continue until 2.25. The schedule of the programs has been organized for you👇right below.
2⃣For a visit to Wuzhen, Xizha is highly recommended for its large area, beautiful scenery, and self-operated shops without excluding tourists from other places. It's also great for photography📸; Dongzha is good for buying local products; South and North Zha are basically undeveloped, so don't go to the wrong place🙅.
3⃣Make sure your navigation is set to "Wuzhen Xizha No. 1 Visitor Center"🚩. Rickshaws and guesthouses at the entrance of the scenic area are mostly unreliable, leading you to designated shops for consumption, ignore them🙅! The visitor center is also the entrance to the scenic area, remember to keep your eyes peeled before entering👀.
4⃣There are many Hanfu and cheongsam shops at the entrance of the scenic area🎀. If you want to take photos, do your makeup before entering the scenic area, as the clothing stores inside charge 2-3 times more~ Choose thick Hanfu with velvet👘.
5⃣When choosing accommodation, be sure to consider the distance from the visitor center🚶. Many so-called "scenic area guesthouses" are actually far from the main gate🚫, and you may have to go around to get there. Ask the owner directly how far it is from the Xizha visitor center!
6⃣There are tour buses in the scenic area, take a ride when tired, 10 yuan per trip🚎. Ask the driver to drop you off at less crowded attractions for a better off-peak experience🤩~
7⃣If staying in the scenic area, remember to go to the "Water Market" for morning tea🍵, which ends at 9 am, and all seats are available. Go early to get a good indoor window seat with a beautiful view🤳. After 9 am when the scenic area opens, it gets crowded, which can affect the visiting experience😣.
8⃣The south bank of the Xizha canal is also great to explore, don't just crowd on the north bank👯~ The south bank's Nü Hong Street to General Wu area has a wide view and is more suitable for photography📷.

📷【About Photography】📸
Every corner of Puyuan Fashion Ancient Town is picturesque🗺️, and every corner is suitable for taking photos📸
1️⃣Take photos of the majestic architecture at Fushan Temple, especially during sunset which is even more magnificent.
2️⃣The day and night views of Chanfang Zen Garden are both worth capturing, with different styles (Reservation required)

4️⃣Climb the North Watchtower to overlook the scenery of the ancient town👀 and fully enjoy the charm of the Jiangnan water town.

6️⃣Walk along🚶🏻♂️ Taiping Lane, when the sun sets🌇, the alleys of the ancient town become more serene and peaceful.
The entire scenic area of Puyuan Fashion Ancient Town is filled with antique buildings. It's great to visit and take photos in Hanfu! The area is quite large, so it's recommended to stay overnight to better experience the night atmosphere of the ancient town. This time I stayed at the Puyuan Meishang Resort Hotel, which had a very nice environment, and both dinner and breakfast were exquisite.
I apologize to Puyuan Ancient Town for being too loud before
I knew a few years ago that a similar ancient town was being planned next to Wuzhen, and at that time I just thought, 'Why another fake ancient town, and right next to Wuzhen, can this even work?' After six years of development, with an area three times larger than Wuzhen and an investment of 7.1 billion yuan, Puyuan Ancient Town has been in trial operation for a while, and it seems to have a good reputation. Despite my skepticism, as an ancient town enthusiast, I couldn't help but take my parents to visit. After touring the town, I must say, it is the most complete of all the new Jiangnan ancient towns I have visited, and it's not at all inferior to Wuzhen, far exceeding my expectations!
I thought it was an artificial ancient town with no historical foundation, but after learning more, I found out that its history dates back to the Southern Song Dynasty when Emperor Gaozong fled south. At that time, this place was just a rural market called Youhu. The scholar Pufeng moved here after being appointed as the Deputy Marshal to Lin'an, and it became the permanent residence of the Pu family. During the reign of Emperor Lizong of Song, Pufeng's sixth-generation descendant, Pudou, was appointed as the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Personnel, and his residence was granted the name 'Puyuan', which is how the ancient town got its name. Since then, Puyuan has been known for its scholarly atmosphere and strong cultural environment. The convergence of merchants also brought economic prosperity to the ancient town, especially the silk industry, which was once known as 'the number one silk in the world' and was listed as one of the five major market towns in Jiangnan during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Today's Puyuan Ancient Town is based on the 'Puyuan Town Chronicles' and deeply crafted with 'Pu Shilang' as the cultural thread. Stepping into the ancient town, you are immediately surrounded by the charm of the Tang and Song dynasties, and the envisioned 'grand town of Jiahe' is fully materialized.
Although I knew that the designer of Puyuan was Chen Xianghong, the same designer of Wuzhen, I was still shocked by the details here. He understands Jiangnan and Tongxiang so well, finding a balance between poetry and the mundane in everything from architecture to culture. At first glance, it has the appearance of Wuzhen, with Song-style architecture as the main feature of the houses built along the water, arranged in an orderly fashion, revealing the unique craftsmanship of Jiangnan through the intricate wood and brick carvings. Every street, courtyard, and stall has been thoughtfully designed and arranged, satisfying visitors' desire to take photos while also maximizing the immersive experience of the ancient town. Unlike other ancient towns that have a street full of stinky tofu and milk tea, here the shops are few but each has its own characteristics, similar to Wuzhen's operation model. You can browse the unique cloth art and cultural creations, visit the Beigeng Tower to learn about Puyuan's past and present, taste Song-style pastries, traditional oily dumplings, and shaomai in the food street, sit in a teahouse to listen to storytelling, or follow the schedule to watch folk performances. If you stay late enough, you can even watch a night patrol show.
In Puyuan, it's impossible to finish taking photos, as everywhere is a scene of traveling through time. Siwan Bridge, Songyue Bridge, Yueyang Bridge... Nine well-preserved ancient bridges lie quietly on the green river, Fushan Pagoda, Fushan Temple, Puyuan Chamber of Commerce, Guandi Temple, Yue Family Courtyard... Each small attraction is a big surprise, and each imitation ancient building conveys profound cultural connotations.
When the lights are up, Puyuan is even more beautiful, like an oil painting. I look forward to its full completion, which will surely be an even bigger surprise.
✍️ It is recommended to visit when there are fewer people for a better experience.
It is recommended to drive yourself, and if you have enough time, you can stay in the ancient town, where there are tourist shuttle buses available.
Currently, there are few dining options, so plan your visit in advance.
Currently, the ticket price is 60 yuan, and it will increase to 120 yuan after the official opening.

The hotel experience in Wuzhen Wucun is so great that I want to live there forever!
What is it like to return to the rural life? I found the answer in my heart at the Wucun Winter Song around the stove, and at the Wucun 🌾 Rice House Rural Hotel!!
-
Check in at the Xizha Scenic Area Tourist Service Center, and be led by the staff to the hotel by 🚘 sightseeing car. All room types of the Rice House Rural Hotel include Wucun Ecological Sightseeing Tour and Xizha Scenic Area Tour. Very convenient! It's about a ten-minute journey, and you can feel the simplicity of the countryside along the way, and the air is mixed with the scent of crops. It's no wonder it's a high-quality 5A scenic spot. From the scenic area to the hotel, all the staff we met were so good, 💗 warm and enthusiastic!!
-
The hotel is mainly white walls and grey tiles, with a large area and complete facilities: rice field 🏊 swimming pool, Gengdu Bar, ☕️ coffee bar, indoor swimming pool, wild duck 🦆 bar.... High-end without losing design sense, the interior decoration is warm-toned, visually you can feel the warmth in the cold winter, full marks for details, and the cleanliness goes without saying, you can see the cleanliness, the chip cloth can also scan the code with your mobile phone to understand the cleaning and disinfection time!! I experienced the Song Body 🧘🏻 Yoga in the hotel with my sister, it's worth experiencing the relaxation of mind and body, you can play in the hotel for a whole day!!
-
There are many activities in Wucun, suitable for parent-child travel and team building, including: tea brewing around the stove 🍵, old wine sealing, mill grinding soy milk (drinking your own ground soy milk feels so accomplished~), children's playhouse (children's paradise), small animal park 🐴 (ecological thumbs up)......
-
Take the sightseeing car to Xizha Scenic Area, it's simply a concrete place for young people and literati:
1⃣️Caomu Bense Dyeing Workshop
It displays the traditional craft of making blue printed cloth. It's a front shop and back workshop attraction, the front hall is a shop, selling various tourist crafts made of blue printed cloth. The back hall is a handmade workshop, sizing and printing room, dyeing room and drying field. In the handmade workshop, tourists can participate in the experience and learn to make blue printed cloth quickly!
2⃣️Zhaoming Academy
During the Nanliang period, Prince Zhaoming Xiao Tong once studied with his teacher Shen Yue in Wuzhen, and the academy now has a library 📖 with elegant books, Fufengge Book House, as well as an electronic reading room and Muxin reading room, etc., it's an ideal place for cultural leisure~
-
🥰A happy and satisfying trip, very rewarding, coming to Wuzhen and staying in the Rice House will definitely be worthwhile!!

Travel Guide to the Ancient Town of Wuzhen in Jiangnan
🌸Wuzhen, a heart-stirring ancient town in Jiangnan, its beauty and charm cannot be fully expressed in words. This scenic spot located in Tongxiang City, Jiaxing, has attracted countless tourists with its unique Jiangnan water town style and historical charm. Next, I will share my travel guide to Wuzhen, hoping to be helpful to you.
🍀First of all, regarding the travel time, the Wuzhen scenic area is open all year round, and the opening hours are 9:00-22:30 every day. For the travel route, I suggest that you can visit in the following order:
1️⃣Day1:
As soon as you enter the scenic spot, the first thing that comes into view is the Xizha Old Street. This street is full of the characteristic style of the Jiangnan water town, as if it has traveled through time and space. You can appreciate the ancient architecture here, taste local delicacies, and buy characteristic handicrafts. Then go to the Caomu Benziran Dyeing Workshop, a dyeing workshop full of historical sense. Here you can understand the ancient dyeing process and also appreciate the beautiful dyed cloth. After lunch, go to the Ganchun Market, where you can buy some characteristic handicrafts or taste local delicacies. Finally, visit the night view of Wuzhen. The night view of Wuzhen has a different flavor, making people feel as if they are in a fairy tale world.
2️⃣Day2:
In the morning, go to the water market to experience the morning tea guests. Here you can taste the local breakfast and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Jiangnan water town. Then you can experience the rowing boat experience, sitting on the boat to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Jiangnan water town. Next, visit attractions such as Qiaoli Bridge and Bailian Tower. These attractions all have their own unique charm, making people linger.
🍀During the tour of Wuzhen, in addition to visiting attractions, there are also some special activities and festivals to participate in. For example, the Good Life Festival·Ganchun Collection and others are characteristic activities of Wuzhen, and each activity has its own characteristics and charm. In addition, there are some accommodation facilities to choose from in the scenic area. (Living in the scenic area, you can overlook the beauty of the scenic area and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal❤️)
🍀Regarding travel expenses, the specific travel expenses will vary according to personal consumption levels and itinerary arrangements. Generally speaking, the ticket price is 150 yuan/person, and the accommodation cost varies according to different grades and seasons, roughly ranging from 300-1000 yuan. In addition, transportation costs and other personal consumption need to be considered. Therefore, it is recommended to make a budget plan in advance to avoid unnecessary expenses.
🌸What I want to say finally is that Wuzhen is a place that needs to be felt with the heart. Here you can feel the tranquility and beauty of the Jiangnan water town, and you can also feel the heaviness of history and the connotation of culture. Whether you like history or nature, Wuzhen is a place worth visiting. I hope my guide can be helpful to your trip and look forward to meeting you in Wuzhen.

🧨【New Year in Wucun】
1⃣️'Gathering around the stove'
It's so atmospheric! Everyone sits together, roasting fire, drinking tea, warming up and chatting. In the afternoon, go to the tea house in the village, put on a shawl and sit by the stove to taste rice sticks and Huo Mochi tea; when night falls, go to the wild duck bar, cook wine around the stove, taste the slightly drunk comfort, and have a good time. Here you can meet strangers who also come to Wucun for tourism and vacation, and the hospitable and thoughtful Wucun CCO, all of which are one-to-one professional services. Everyone chats around the fire about their thoughts and feelings, and their bodies and minds are relaxed and comfortable.
2⃣️'New Year's Market'
Going to the market is the most real feeling I have had about the New Year since I was a child. The New Year's Market in Wucun, watching lion dance parades, writing spring couplets, cutting window flowers... wrapped in a strong New Year's atmosphere~
3⃣️'New Year Carnival'
It is said that there are also New Year's Eve song and dance parties, Wucun Taohuayuan Show, New Year's bonfire parties and other diverse New Year's carnival activities here from 2.9 to 2.17. This is the first time I found out that my aunt is completely like a child when she is excited~🤣
.
In Wucun,
You can really feel what is called vitality and relaxation,
Whether it's the service staff in the village or the guests in the village,
Everyone is filled with a joyful and relaxed atmosphere.

Alila Wuzhen Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Wake up in Alila and experience the light and shadow aesthetics of the Jiangnan water town!
Address: Wuzhen, Tongxiang, Zhejiang
The hotel is about 4.3 kilometers away from the Xizha Scenic Area. It is not just a regular choice for the surrounding water towns. Its unique geographical location adjacent to the wetland naturally forms a barrier to isolate the hustle and bustle. It is extremely quiet. Crossing its threshold is like entering a beautiful world that makes your heart beat faster. Every step is a scene, as if you are walking in a painting. The design comes from the top domestic architectural firm GOA Elephant Design. The architectural community is well-arranged around the water system, like a maze. It adopts a simple Jiangnan style that is simple but not lacking in temperature, calm and full of emotions. The main tone is beige and gray.
A high-end and distinctive space atmosphere is created with beige and gray as the main tone. The clever combination of architecture and water system reflects unique scenery and attracts people to explore every untouched corner. Even the most basic room type has a spacious area of 108m. Each guest room is an independent small house equipped with a private courtyard and a private bathtub facing the beautiful scenery. The tranquility and privacy make every detail full of artistic atmosphere. The food experience is also not to be missed. Breakfast can be enjoyed at the Shuishi Kou with a buffet of Western and Chinese food. It is mouth-watering. During afternoon tea time, you can integrate the beautiful scenery, melodious music and seasonal ingredients in the dreamy Sanbai Bar. As for dinner.
Escape to Shanghai and immerse yourself in the water towns of Jiangnan!
Jiangsu and Zhejiang's fairyland healing center
Recently, work has been going poorly, suppressed by the higher-ups, so I simply looked for a place to escape from the world
I chose the country's only Aman hotel. The Garden Villa at Universal Guest is very much to my liking.
Driving from Shanghai, all the way on the highway, extremely pleasant to drive, arrived in 2 hours.
Breakfast is a la carte plus buffet, for the beef noodles make sure to note more meat less noodles, the small wontons are very fragrant, I could eat 5 mango glutinous rice dumplings. The eggs Benedict are perfect in both form and spirit, with authentically seasoned Hollandaise sauce. You can always trust the dining of the Hyatt group.
The hotel's public areas are full of style, with sleek lines, and the water features complement the white buildings. Although they are all man-made
Opposite the gym is the yoga room, equipped with Lululemon mats, and the few times I went I had it all to myself.
Lunch and dinner were both settled at the 'Like Water' Chinese restaurant, the bamboo forest design is very interesting. If you're tired of the hotel's food, you can also order takeout.
Not far from the Xizha scenic area, but I didn't leave the hotel for three days. Ready to continue the fight.
Does anyone have their own hidden gems in Jiangsu and Zhejiang? Let's share.
A Dragon-Proud-Sky style legend of Eastern aesthetics, the Alila Hotel in Wuzhen
The Alila brand within China has indeed faced a tumultuous fate. Due to its own high demands for natural surroundings in its location choices, it has experienced several ups and downs. Currently, only the Wuzhen location remains in operation, making it particularly precious. With the Hyatt Group's points adjustment this year, the C4 vouchers have found their best destination, and it is expected that for a considerable time to come, this place will continue to be extremely popular.
The Alila Wuzhen is based on the blueprint of an ancient Jiangnan village, creating an unprecedented dreamlike water town. Here, the rivers crisscross neatly, and every household lives by the water. Yet, it radically discards traditional Chinese decorations such as wood and brick carvings, retaining only the architectural framework of sloping roofs and the ink tones of white walls and black tiles. Then, with simplified and sharp lines, it artistically depicts the charm of the misty rain in Jiangnan. Utilizing plants, light and shadow, water systems, and alleys, it completes this secluded garden haven in perfect harmony.
Unfortunately, the aesthetic of the public areas does not extend into the private spaces. Upon entering the guest rooms, the wow factor is lost. Although it also features various compositions of straight angles and minimalist decoration in Morandi colors, discarding excessive adornments, for some reason, the ambiance is no longer austere or aloof. Whether it's the landscape construction of the gardens at the front and back or the play of light and shadow outside the window by the bathtub, there are shadows of other places. It's like an old joke in a stand-up comedy, not amusing and somewhat awkward.
The fitness center and pool are mediocre in appearance at night, still sharp and angular, with a stark white floor-to-ceiling design, but the visual effect is quite oppressive. It feels as if the budget was insufficient at this point, and the finish was hurried and makeshift.
The breakfast at the Shuichikou Restaurant is slightly inferior to the restaurant's own aesthetic value, but the greenery and misty rain outside the window are indeed more precious. The breakfast adopts the combination of a la carte and buffet commonly used in resort hotels. The a la carte selection is not extensive, featuring local specialties such as lamb noodles and small wontons. The buffet is similar to that of regular five-star hotels, without many highlights.
Perhaps due to the recent good business, even regular customers can hardly experience any value-added services. There are no phone greetings in advance, and upon arrival, the front desk is often staffed by new and flustered employees, with no introduction to the hotel's facilities, leaving guests to explore on their own. Room arrangements are made for check-in after six o'clock, with no explanation for guests arriving during normal hours. And so on.
In conclusion, it is recommended to visit on non-holidays.

With the filter of fog, it looks like a traditional Chinese ink painting of misty rain in Jiangnan!
At Wuzhen|The only ALILA
ALILA is located on Ziyedong Road in Tongxiang Wuzhen Town, only a 5min drive from Wuzhen. Whether departing from Hangzhou or Shanghai, it only takes 1 hour or 1.5 hours by car. Perfect for a weekend getaway from the city's hustle and bustle, to enjoy the tranquil life of the water town. Super suitable for weekend trips!!
"ALILA" comes from Sanskrit, meaning "surprise", which perfectly matches the hotel's unique personality and the experience guests receive while resting here. The hotel's construction took four years and covers an area of 25,000 square meters, and it received the architecture industry's Oscar before it even opened.
The hotel's design is dominated by shades of gray and white, ingeniously combining the sky, water surface, and light and shadow. Upon entering the gate, you merge with the waterscape. When the weather is good, it's great for taking photos. When I visited, it was a rainy day with fog, which was perfect for experiencing the misty rain of Jiangnan, and all the buildings looked like a Jiangnan misty rain ink painting through the filter of fog.
The hotel staff are extremely courteous, and any requests made to the front desk are promptly dealt with. Most of the guest rooms are standalone buildings, ensuring privacy. Super suitable for families, couples, and friends gathering. Upon check-in, there is a welcome gift box, the toiletries are also excellent, and the minibar is also free of charge.
