Toledo, a World Heritage Site in Spain

In 193 BC, in a final battle at Toledo, Roman troops defeated the local Celts and the city was incorporated into the Roman Empire, with city officials receiving Roman citizenship and continuing their public service. This is the recorded origin of the city. Unlike the colonies we understand today, the status of ancient European colonies was not felt to be inferior. 290 years later, the first Roman emperor born in Spain was born, Trajan, followed by Hadrian, Marcus Aurelius and the last emperor Theodosius. Located on the Tagus River in central Iberia, Toledo is known as the "City of Three Cultures" due to its historical cultural influence on Christians, Muslims, and Jews. It was the capital of the Visigothic Kingdom from 542 to 725 AD after the fall of the Roman Empire. Toledo was also the site of historical events such as the Council of Toledo, and was known as the "Imperial City" because it was the main venue for the court of Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor of Spain. The city was the seat of a powerful archdiocese for much of its history and has a Gothic Toledo Cathedral, as well as a long history of producing bladed weapons, which are now common tourist souvenirs. Toledo is a city and municipality in Spain, the capital of the Province of Toledo.
