Tokyo｜hotel MONday Premium Ueno Okachimachi

During this trip to Tokyo, I chose to stay near Ueno but not at the hotels around Ueno Station. Instead, I opted for hotel MONday Premium Ueno Okachimachi, which is about a ten-minute walk from Ueno Station—not too far. If you walk from Ameya-Yokocho, the distance feels shorter since there are plenty of shops and stores to explore along the way. The hotel is located near Naka-Okachimachi Station on the Hibiya Line. From Exit 1 (stairs only), you can immediately spot the hotel’s signboard—it’s literally just a one-minute walk to the hotel. The lobby on the first floor is not very large but is clean and bright. There’s a row of seats by the window equipped with power outlets, as well as a sofa area for resting or waiting. The reception desk is near the elevator, and the staff are very friendly. The check-in process was smooth, and they provided an introduction to the hotel’s various services. Near the elevator, there are amenities available for self-service. The elevator and door gaps are minimal, making it convenient for pulling luggage (the wheels won’t get stuck). Each floor has a limited number of guest rooms, and the soundproofing is average—you can hear loud conversations from the hallway. I booked a twin room with two single beds. Upon entering the room, the "room tour" was completed in one glance (laughs). The bathroom is small but overall clean. The hotel doesn’t fully clean the room daily; they only replace towels and bath towels and take out the trash. On the third day of the stay, they did a full cleaning of the room as per their policy. Although the room isn’t spacious enough to fully open a suitcase, the space is still relatively decent. There are plenty of spots on the wall for hanging clothes. The fridge, safe, and cabinet are almost integrated into one unit. The fridge is quite small, so it’s a bit inconvenient if you want to store all your purchased items. The bed is firm and comfortable to sleep on, but the pillow—oh, it’s so flat! Every morning, I woke up with neck and shoulder pain, which was really bothersome! The room cleaning was a bit odd. After the fourth day, while the trash was cleared, the used towels and bath towels weren’t taken away. Instead, new towels and bath towels were added, leaving the bathroom with an increasing pile of towels each day. Isn’t that strange? At the front desk on the first floor, you can ask the staff to call a taxi for you. The hotel charges an additional 500 yen for this service. A taxi ride from the hotel to JR Ueno Station costs about 1,200 yen, and to Keisei Skyliner Station, about 1,300 yen. If you have too many souvenirs on your return trip, it’s worth considering taking a taxi to the station.
