I stumbled upon the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum while looking at a map at the station and noticed a large green area. I decided to take a stroll here. From Shirokanedai Station, I walked past the Institute for Nature Study and found a beige building that harmonizes beautifully with the garden's greenery. This museum, built in 1983, utilizes the former residence of the Asaka family, a former imperial family, which was constructed in 1933 in the French Art Deco style. Unlike other museums, the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum is unique in that it does not exhibit various paintings and sculptures but rather focuses on garden and architectural design. The residence was built in 1933 to cater to the tastes of Prince Asaka, who had studied in France, hence the adoption of the then-popular French Art Deco architectural style. Due to its historical and cultural significance, it was designated a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan in 2015. In autumn, the red maple leaves here are stunning. Even if you don't visit the exhibitions, just walking around the area makes you feel relaxed and at ease.
