Shinjuku Kabukicho

Kabukicho is located in Shinjuku and is also famous for its entertainment district! The origin of the name is that in the late 1940s, when Tokyo was rebuilt after being destroyed by the Great Air Raid, a plan was made to build a Kabuki theater in this area, and the name was decided to be Kabukicho. However, the plan for the Kabuki theater was canceled due to financial problems, and only the name remained. Since there are many entertainment facilities and bars, you can often see many Shinjuku office workers drinking nearby, and you can occasionally see touts soliciting customers. As of September 1, 2013, soliciting customers was banned, so you can no longer hear "Have a drink before you go!" from bar employees who solicit customers as you pass by. However, Kabukicho itself has many stores and many stores that cannot do business without soliciting customers, so it seems that it has not actually disappeared. Currently, the police have given up on cracking down on them, and if you actually go to Kabukicho, you can often hear the police announce on the street, "Don't follow the touts! The fares they tell you are all lies!" If possible, try not to follow the touts.
