Ushijima Shrine is said to have been founded in 860 by Jikaku Daishi after receiving a divine revelation. It is said that Minamoto no Yoritomo made a donation to the shrine in 1181. One thing to note at Ushijima Shrine is the Miwa Torii gate. When passing through the torii gate, turning around in a figure eight is the correct way to worship!
