Balkan Tour (17) Timisoara, the third largest city in Romania.

Travel Together Season 8 - Balkan Tour (17) Timisoara, the third largest city in Romania Sibiu, Romania - Timisoara - Belgrade, Serbia July 5, 2019, sunny, 20-30°C. After breakfast, we drove to Timisoara, another four-hour long drive. We arrived at 11:45, and went sightseeing in the city after lunch. Timisoara is a city in western Romania, the third largest city in Romania. The city spans both sides of the Bega River, and was a fortress in the 13th century, formerly known as Temesvar. There are ancient buildings such as the 15th century castle, the 18th century town hall and the cathedral. Union Square (Photo 1) is the most unique square in Timisoara and the most beautiful of the three squares. The yellow building is the Baroque-style St. George's Roman Catholic Cathedral (Photo 2) built in the 18th century. The afternoon sun shines on the golden Catholic church, which is very beautiful. The nearby Serbian Church (Photo 3), the Art Museum building and the monument in the middle of the square add a strong historical flavor to the bustling square. If you don't come here, you can't imagine that these national treasure buildings have "traveled" through the ancient years and still stand on the young land, active in the memory of the nation. It is even more unimaginable that they are still outstanding after a hundred years. Liberty Square is located between Victory Square and Union Square. The tramway passes by the square, and the Maria Monument (Photo 4) stands on the square, surrounded by the Military Museum, local government buildings, libraries, drama academies, etc. A sculpture of a little boy making a phone call gesture caught our attention (Photo 5). Victory Square (Photo 6) is located in the center of Timisoara and is a beautiful commercial pedestrian street (Photo 7) with shops, cinemas and cafes on both sides, and the National Theater and Opera House around the square. At the end of the pedestrian street facing Victory Square is the Victory Monument (Photo 8). Across the street is the Orthodox Cathedral, which is listed as a historical monument in Romania (Photo 9). 15:00 Drive to Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, 16:15 arrive at the Romanian-Serbian border, 17:00 pass the border (Belgrade time 16:00). Today is the longest drive of the trip so far. Listening to the guide's introduction of Romania and Yugoslavia's past and present along the way, I was very interested and not sleepy at all, which is the advantage of group tours. I was not only satisfied with my ears, but also with my eyes. Under the clear sky, different color blocks on the vast fields passed by one by one. Overall, the main crops of the season are wheat, sunflowers, corn and potatoes. 18:30 Arrive in Belgrade and stay at Hotel Sumadija.
