Revisiting Shanghai: Unchanging Charm and New Discoveries in My Hometown

I visited my hometown, Shanghai, for the first time in 10 years since I left in my 30s. Standing in the Bund district, I was overcome with a sense of nostalgia and freshness at the same time. On a clear, blue-sky day, the Bund was still bustling with tourists from all over the world. Watching people with cameras reminded me of the charm of my hometown. The skyscrapers of Pudong spread out before me. With the addition of new landmarks such as the Oriental Pearl Tower and the Shanghai Tower, the skyline had become even more magnificent. At my feet, meanwhile, were the Bund's historical buildings. Western-style buildings such as the Peace Hotel (formerly the Cathay Pacific Hotel) maintained their unchanging dignity. This contrast between the old and the new may be the essence of Shanghai. While constantly evolving, it also cherishes and preserves its history. Seeing Shanghai like that, I feel my heart being drawn back to the city I left in my 30s. As I walked along the bustling Nanjing Road, I encountered familiar smells and discovered new cafes. I realized that even though my hometown has changed, it still retains the same charm. In the past 10 years, both I and Shanghai have changed. But we can accept each other and build new relationships.
