JOGAN BEACH YOGYAKARTA

Twilight greeted us when YogYES arrived at Jogan Beach. Flanked by high cliffs typical of limestone mountains, Jogan Beach is like a contest, where river water descends from the mountain to meet the waves returning to sea. Of the dozens of beaches scattered along the 71 kilometers of Gunungkidul coast, Jogan Beach occupies a special position because of the presence of a waterfall that directly falls from the top of the cliff to the sea, reminiscent of McWay Beach Waterfall in California. So far, not many travelers know about Jogan Beach. Its location, which is just west of Siung Beach, is often forgotten by climbers who are motivated to embrace the beautiful Siung cliff. To reach Jogan Beach, it takes about two hours driving from Jogja. Along the smooth asphalt road, winding through the karst hills which are the remnants of the ocean millions of years ago. When we arrive at the Siung Beach Retribution Post, it means that Jogan Beach is close, because about 400 meters from the post, you will see a wooden sign indicating the direction to Jogan. Replacing smooth asphalt, the path becomes the next guide, taking you accompanied by two small rivers on the left side which will merge and turn into a waterfall. Unfortunately, its beauty can only be seen during the rainy season, while in the dry season the water discharge is very small, coupled with the activity of extracting water for the needs of the residents. To be able to enjoy the splash of water from the top of the cliff, we have to go down. There are two ways to go down, first with the canyoning technique aka rappeling at the waterfall. Of course, you need the right equipment and skills to do this. Second, tread the wet slippery slope. Fortunately, there are wooden handles to support the body. Even so, caution is mandatory because of the steep path.
