[Henan Tangyin County - Hometown of Yue Fei, Yue Fei Temple]

Yue Fei was a famous general and national hero who fought against the Jin Dynasty. There are three temples in China dedicated to Yue Fei, located in Tangyin, Anyang, Henan; Zhuxian Town, Kaifeng; and Hangzhou, Zhejiang. Tangyin is Yue Fei's hometown, and the Tangyin Yue Fei Temple commemorates his birth. Zhuxian Town was the site of Yue Fei's great victory over the Jin army, and the Zhuxian Town Yue Fei Temple commemorates his achievements. Hangzhou is where Yue Fei was killed, and the Hangzhou Yue Fei Temple commemorates his death. The main attractions of the Tangyin Yue Fei Temple include the Jingzhong Archway, Shiquan Shrine and the iron kneeling statue under the stone steps, the Mountain Gate, the Stele Corridor, the Main Hall and the seated statue of Yue Fei, the Sleeping Hall (Guangzhao Riyue), the Suzhan Pavilion, the Jingguang Pavilion, the Imperial Stele Pavilion, the Qianlong Imperial Stele, the Yue Mu Tattoo Hall, the Yue Yun Shrine, the Four Sons Shrine, the Yue Ke Shrine, the Xiao'e Shrine, the Qisheng Shrine (Three Generations Shrine), and the new Yue Fei Memorial Hall. There is an old saying in Tangyin: "The Wenwang Temple has many trees, and the Yuewang Temple has many steles." The Yue Fei Temple houses 193 steles from various dynasties, including an imperial stele from the Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty, a stele inscribed by the Ming Dynasty calligrapher Dong Qichang, and steles inscribed by Yue Fei himself with the phrases "Return My Rivers and Mountains," "Chu Shi Biao," "Man Jiang Hong," and "Bao Dao Ge." In the newly completed Yue Fei Memorial Hall at the Tangyin Yue Fei Temple, the spirit of Yue Fei is summed up in seven words: loyalty, filial piety, literature, martial arts, justice, frugality, and integrity. His famous saying, "Civil officials should not love money, and military officials should not fear death, and the world will be at peace," is very convincing.
