Sizhou Temple Pagoda, also known as Bodhi Temple Pagoda and Sizhou Pagoda, is located at No. 239 North Xinchun Road, Tanghe County, Nanyang City, Henan Province. It was built in the second year of Shaosheng in the Song Dynasty (1095). It is the tallest and largest ancient tower in Henan Province. One of the pagodas, it is known as "the pagoda of Sizhou Temple is one foot and eight inches away from the sky". The Sizhou Temple Pagoda is located in the original Bodhi Temple, which no longer exists. The Sizhou Temple Pagoda is a pavilion-style brick tower with imitation wood structure. It is octagonal in plan, 49.6 meters high, and has 10 floors in total. The brick tower has a tall appearance, with the height and side length decreasing from bottom to top. There are 59 Buddha statues of Sakyamuni embedded in the outer wall of the second-level pagoda; there are 6 Buddha statues embedded in the outer wall of the fourth-level pagoda, sitting on the lotus and Xumi throne. There are 80 carved dragon heads on the wing corners of the tower body, hanging 33 centimeters outside the tower body. The Sizhou Temple Pagoda has an even number of floors and is one of the typical Song Dynasty brick pagodas in Henan Province. The stele in the pagoda that records the construction of the pagoda in the past dynasties provides precious information for studying the history of the pagoda. The brick-carved niches and Buddha statues outside the pagoda are of various shapes, and some of the Buddha statues also have inscriptions of chronology and events. The pagoda doors and windows of different shapes on each floor of the pagoda have important historical and artistic value. There are more than ten types of brackets on the tower body and inside the tower, which provide physical data for the study of the architectural history of the Song Dynasty and have high scientific research value. In May 2006, Sizhou Temple Pagoda was announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
