DAY 49: Ōkunoshima…an island that once disappeared from the map I had no idea about the history of the island until I came here. This island experienced the turbulent periods of the Russo-Japanese War and World War II, and was a secret base for the Japanese army to produce poison gas. It was not until the end of World War II that all the facilities on the island were destroyed by the US military, leaving only buildings such as power plants, artillery ruins, ammunition depots, and poison gas storage depots... What happened here, and the fact that it was once wiped off the map... have all become unknown X-Files. The ruins on the island tell a history and it feels like entering another world. Now it has unexpectedly become a paradise for rabbits, a quiet space, a building covered with green grass, collapsed ruins and weathered buildings. Rabbits, thank you for bringing me here. It's nice to meet you. When I opened my backpack and prepared to take out the feed, as expected, several rabbits ran towards me happily from all directions. You'll never get tired of watching it! While playing with the rabbits, you may find rabbits in any corner here, black, white, beige, coffee brown, gray, big and small rabbits. Yes, this is the rabbits' free hometown. There are no fences and no one to manage here. You can ride a bicycle, camp, walk around, or go swimming and canoeing in the sea on the island. As you walk along the nature trail through the island's native forests, you will find that the sea ahead is endless. This is the famous Shimanami Kaido on the Seto Inland Sea. There is a row of things that look like rabbit ears on the beach. They are sound collectors. When you put them to your ears, you can clearly hear the sound of the wind and waves.
