Takayama City is located in the Hida region in the northern part of Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Because the town has well-preserved Edo period street scenes, it is known as the "Little Kyoto of Hida". Kami-San-no-machi is the most representative ancient street area in Takayama City. It preserves the traditional buildings of the Edo period and is designated as an important national preservation area for traditional buildings. There are long-established shops, craft shops and art galleries on both sides of the street, making it a great place for strolling and shopping. There is a miso specialty store on the ancient street. There are must-see attractions in Takayama Takayama Jinya, the only surviving magistrate's office building, showcases the administrative center of the Tenryo during the Edo period. There are facilities such as courtyards, rice warehouses and courts in Jinya, which is an important place to understand the political operations during the shogunate period. Hida Kokubunji Temple was built in the Nara period. It has a three-story pagoda and a thousand-year-old ginkgo tree. It is an important national monument designated by Japan. Hida no Sato is a museum that mainly displays Gassho-style houses and recreates the style of village life in the Hida region. There are two major morning markets in Takayama City, the Miyagawa Morning Market and the Takayama Jinya-mae Morning Market.
