Taiyuan Ancient County Town

Taiyuan Ancient County Town, an early Ming Dynasty county town and national-level tourism and leisure district, is located in Jinyuan District, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. It was founded in the eighth year of the Hongwu era (1375) and covers an area of about 0.8 square kilometers. The city walls are divided into east, south, west, and north sides, with a total length of 3700 meters, a height of 11 meters, a bottom width of 13 meters, and an inner top width of 7.95 meters. The walls are built on a stone foundation using the plum blossom pile construction method, presenting a simple and majestic style. The city walls have a total of 4 city towers, 4 corner towers, 36 watchtowers, 1 Kuiguang Tower, and 1 lookout tower, with 6 wall gateways (a total of 12 holes). The historical architectural remains within the city are numerous, with a clear cross-street pattern and a well-preserved street texture, inheriting the ancient architectural pattern of 'the city of Fengxiang's remnants' from the old city of Jinyang, resembling a phoenix with its head to the north and tail to the south. It has been known as the 'Phoenix City' since ancient times and is a continuation of the 2500-year-old cultural lineage of the ancient city of Jinyang. In Taiyuan County Town, there are dozens of temples, pavilions, and ancestral halls both inside and outside the city, such as Liuwang Temple, Yingong Temple, Guanwang Temple, Chongsheng Temple, Jie Xiao Temple, Honghou Temple, Lianggong Temple, Zhaoxiangzi Temple, etc.
