Taipei Exhibition: A Small but Impressive Bizen Pottery Exhibition

I happened to visit the Taiwan Literature Base and stumbled upon a Bizen pottery exhibition. The exhibition aims to promote traditional Japanese craftsmanship culture, allowing more people to experience the unique charm and profound history of Bizen pottery up close. Bizen pottery is one of Japan's six ancient kilns, originating from the Imbe area in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture. Its most distinctive feature is that it is made entirely without glaze, directly fired from clay, presenting a simple, rugged yet warm texture. The natural patterns formed during the firing process, such as hidasuki and goma, also give each piece a unique appearance. Although the exhibition space is small, being able to appreciate the handcrafted works up close is still very surprising and touching—the beauty woven by nature and time is truly captivating.
