Guizi Mountain, once the highest peak in Tainan City

Location: No. 10, Lane 69, Xingzhong Street, South District, Tainan City Introduction: Guizi Mountain, once known as the 'First Mountain of Fucheng,' has an elevation of about 26 meters and is the only hill in Tainan City. In the early years, this area was filled with tombs and was called 'Ghost Mountain.' Today, after being cleaned up, it has transformed into a lookout hill, offering panoramic views and a refreshing breeze. In the past, Fucheng was mostly flat, with only a few hills outside the Great South Gate, including Guizi Mountain. Due to its remote location and the presence of many tombs, it had a mysterious aura for the city residents and was colloquially known as 'Ghost Mountain.' Later, the name was changed to 'Guizi Mountain' and 'Guizi Mountain' due to its phonetic similarity. The map of 'Taiwan Fucheng' from the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty records the hill outside the Great South Gate as 'Guizi Mountain.' Over time, this suburban hill outside the South Gate became the only remaining hill in the city. During the Japanese occupation, it was developed for military purposes, and the military facilities, Japanese-style dormitories, and surrounding buildings were retained by the military after the war.
