Early March in the Humble Administrator's Garden marks the beginning of a poetic early spring. Magnolias are budding, their white blossoms as pure as snow, adorning the eaves of ancient buildings. I visited at the end of February when the plum blossoms were in full bloom, creating a picturesque scene against the white walls and black tiles. If you happen to visit on a drizzly day, you'll experience the hazy charm of a "smoky Jiangnan." [Yi Pu Garden] Weeping plum blossoms and camellias compete for beauty. Yi Pu Garden is small and secluded. In early March, the weeping plum blossoms still linger, while camellias gradually come into full bloom. By the "Milkfish Pavilion," weeping plum branches droop towards the water, like red silk brushing the waves; camellias bloom against the walls, vibrant yet elegant. [Canglang Pavilion] Plum blossoms and bamboo sway, shadows play on the carved windows. Canglang Pavilion is known for its rocks and ancient trees. In early March, the lingering fragrance of wintersweet remains, and greenery fills the carved windows. Beneath the "Mountain Viewing Tower," golden jasmine climbs the stone crevices, creating a contrast of warm and cool colors with the moss. [Master of the Nets Garden] Camellias reflect in the pond, crabapples about to awaken. The Master of the Nets Garden is famous for its exquisite waterscapes. In early March, camellias bloom by the pond, and crabapple buds begin to appear. On a sunny day, the beauty lies in sitting quietly in the "Moon to Wind Pavilion," watching the "bright camellias, as the sun sets in the west." On a cloudy day, you can appreciate the subtle beauty of "clouds sinking, flowers dimming, forming a natural ink painting." [Ke Yuan Garden] Magnolias bloom, books imbued with spring. Ke Yuan was once a school, where literary spirit blends with the vitality of spring. In front of the "Study the Ancients Hall," when I visited, red plum blossoms complemented the green brick window lattices, resembling an unfolded meticulous painting. Now, it's the season for magnolias to bloom. Spring is truly beautiful! Warm Midday Sun (11:00-13:00): Magnolias in the Humble Administrator's Garden, magnolias and camellias in the Master of the Nets Garden. Twilight (16:00-17:30): Spring flowers in Ke Yuan Garden, lingering early spring charm in Canglang Pavilion. The Suzhou gardens in early spring are a poetic blend of nature and culture. The fleeting blossoms of early March require a visit at the perfect moment, a rendezvous with time. This trip to Suzhou, I finally had a proper Hanfu photoshoot. I chose a Song Dynasty scholar-official style. The makeup and styling took 2 hours, and I was exhausted before even starting the shoot. Fortunately, I'm quite satisfied with the final photos.
