Guangfu Temple

Suzhou Bronze Guanyin Temple is located at the southern foot of Guishan in Guangfu Town (Guangfu Temple). It was built in the second year of the Liang Tianjian period (503 AD) and is the oldest temple in the Wu region. Because the temple originally enshrined a bronze statue of Guanyin, it is also known as the Bronze Guanyin Temple. The preserved buildings include the main hall, the Western Hall, the temple bridge, and the Guangfu Pagoda. The temple bridge, built across the river in front of the temple, is very ancient. The sides are made of Wukang stone, carved with patterns of two dragons playing with a pearl and swastika motifs, and the craftsmanship is exquisite, dating back to the Song Dynasty. Crossing the temple bridge and entering the mountain gate, you will find the main hall, which has a single-eave hard mountain style with a front porch. The interior of the hall is brightly lit, without dougong (interlocking wooden brackets), and the eaves purlins rest directly on the eaves columns. In front of the hall, there is a camphor tree with lush branches and leaves, and a dense canopy. It is over 600 years old and very tall!
