Indonesia Heritage Site: House of Sampoerna
#wheretogo
On a business visit to Surabaya a while back, I took a half day off to tour The House of Sampoerna in Surabaya, it is one of the top sights in Surabaya for its unique blend of culture, history, and craftsmanship.
This heritage site provides insight into Indonesia's rich clove industry, offering a fascinating journey through the art of hand-rolled clove products. Visitors can witness skilled artisans at work, explore a Dutch colonial-style building, and learn about the Sampoerna family's legacy.
Good experience and I can see why this cultural gem in Surabaya frequently ranks as one of the top attractions in this East Java city.
Local Alcohol
#wheretogo to experience local alcohol beverages. Double Tree Hilton Surabaya served local beverages. The staff can also personalised according to your order.
It's available during evening cocktail from 5 to 7pm. I ordered espresso martini and its quite good. First try they use baileys and coffee. 2nd try I asked for baileys, coffee and vodka. Nice, aromatic and creamy!
Beside the personalised request, they also serve local wine (Plaga) and beer (Bintang).

Afternoon tea is available from 3 to 5 pm with limited small bites, coffee and tea. Don't expect much as it's super mini and not so flavorful. After all, its free of charge, come as benefit from the executive room.

24 Hours Kopitiam in Surabaya - Kedai Ciamso
While visiting Surabaya, we stumbled upon this charming eatery. Kedai Ciamso, a coffee shop with a nostalgic Chinese ambiance, caught our attention. Their menu featured a delightful fusion of Malay and Chinese dishes. It wasn't overly fancy; instead, every dish exuded a comforting, home-cooked flavor.
One of the best aspects of this place is that it's open 24 hours a day! Situated in the heart of the city, it's conveniently located near Jalan Tunjungan. Moreover, the prices are quite reasonable. So, if you ever find yourself in the area and craving a delicious meal in the middle of the night, we highly recommend paying a visit to Kedai Ciamso.

Where Tea and Ambiance Unite - LOFT
Loft Cafe in Surabaya beautifully marries zen and industrial vibes. Its serene ambiance instantly soothes the soul, while the industrial elements lend a modern edge. The tea selection is diverse, and the cozy decor enhances the overall experience. We could say the tea selections were among the best in town. My only take was: if only they have no sugar option for all the drinks, that'd be great. seems like they specialise in light bites for the food. We had sandos, while the Custard Pudding Sando was 'eggcellent', the custard was not too sweet with caramelised bread crust. The Loft Breakfast was particularly too salty for our liking.
They're located along Jalan Raya Darmo Permai in the west side of Surabaya. They open from 7am, so if you're planning for an early meeting with your loved ones or tea break after that jogging session, this place is perfect.
If you're happen to visit Surabaya, this place is a must-visit for those seeking tranquility with a touch of urban charm.

SEPASI

Calm and comfortable for work.
⠀
After being inactive for a while, now Sepasi is open again with more glow-up vibes. The location itself is in Gayungsari and is in a residential area. The design is minimalist with exposed concrete accents combined with some wooden furniture. In the back area there is a space that functions as an art gallery.
⠀
The menu itself is complete, starting from snacks, heavy meals to various coffee / non-coffee drinks. There is another promo, which is free lunch for you every day from 11:00 - 13:00. The condition is enough to buy one medium sized drink. The lunch menu changes every day so you won't be bored.

Coffee atmosphere in the garden
⠀
I never thought that in the Jemursari area there would be a coffee shop with a garden concept like this. The location is a bit hidden gem, precisely on Jln. Jemursari Selatan IV. This place is in a big house whose courtyard/garden has been converted into a coffeeshop. The combination of garden chairs and leaves creates natural and very comfortable vibes.
⠀
The menu itself turns out to be diverse ranging from various drinks, snacks to heavy meals. Because it's basically a coffeeshop, of course there are lots of coffee menus here that you can try. I tried their signature Midnight in Paris, a coffee mocktail with a citrus flavor and a touch of bitter which is super addictive. It's really suitable for hanging out in the afternoon with your friends here.

GUSTO COFFE
𝗚𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲
Hanging out while hunting dusk.
⠀
A coffee shop in the rooftop area which is located in the middle of the city, on Jalan Indragiri te precise and very close to Sutos. To get here, you have to climb 3 stairs to the rooftop area. You will get a view of Thor's field and the city of Surabaya from above.
⠀
The place is really spacious and well organized. The design itself combines wooden ornaments, exposed concrete and lots of plants in every corner. There are semi-outdoor and indoor spaces too, so don't worry if it rains. The original place is perfect for those of you who like to hang out in the afternoon.
⠀
They prepare a lot of menus from snacks, various drinks to heavy meals. It's really cool to enjoy a rooftop atmosphere like this while hunting for dusk. During the fasting month they prepare an iftar menu, so you can do ngabuburit or bukber here.

Beautiful worship place
Al Akbar Mosque, Surabaya is the second largest mosque in Indonesia after the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta. It has a beautiful minaret at 99 meters of height which clearly visible from distance. You can visit the minaret at small cost of Rp7000. Well maintained surrounding. Also equipped with several small parks in its perimeter. You should visit this place if you on the way from Malang to downtown Surabaya
historic accomondation!!
Hotel Majapahit by MGallery, Tunjungan, Surabaya. Operate since 1910 initially as Hotel Oranje. Located in the heart of Surabaya in Tunjungan area. Favourite spot for pre wedding photo due to it lush greenery in between of an historic beautiful building. The staff was really friendly and attentive. Just ask them, they will help you. This hotel just 5 minutes walking distance from Tunjungan plaza.
Rustic Market. An awesome hang out spot!!
Rustic Market, Jl Golf 1, Dukuhpakis, Surabaya. This place basically is a restaurant which serve western and local food. It have complete facilities.
The food was fantastic and the ambient was awesome. Suitable to hang out with family or friends. The price per Person can be consider as reasonable which is about Rp70000. Should be one of your to visit place while you're in Surabaya. My rate is 5/5. Awesome hang out spot in Surabaya!!Awesome hang out spot in Surabaya!!
Fun Times at Funimal Park Surabaya!!
Funimal Park is a mini zoo from Jatimpark Group, it was just opened on June 15 at the parking space of Pakuwon City Mall Surabaya. This event will be going for a month, until July 16.
The entry fee was 50K per person, but if you spent minimum of 100K for F&B from the mall (Pakuwon City Mall), you will get a 50% discount on the entry fee.
The animal area was not that big, but the variety of the animals was pretty good. From goat, sheep, cow, llama, pony, chicken, peacock, birds, snake, lizard, rabbits, etc. The spaces for the animals were pretty wide, so they could still walk around and go to the corner to sleep if they felt tired of people. You can buy them food like greens and carrots for 35K.
Beside the animals, there were some food stalls with free entry.
They're open from 3PM until 10PM. It's a nice place to go with kids!

Making Another Core Memory in Playtopia
This is Playtopia, but in Pakuwon Mall branch. I have been to their Ciputra World branch, but I think this one is more fun!
They had these very tall slides, and it went fast like a roller coaster. My son was scared at first, but turned out to like it. There were soo many other things to do, like climbing, trampoline, artificial sand, huge ball pit, building blocks, etc. And I think this place fits 5-12 yo kids, not younger kids. Even some adults will like it!
They also used bright colors, with great design, too. So this place was bright enough and gave the "fun" looks.
I suggest you come on weekdays, because it could be very crowded at the weekend.
Legendary Steakhouse in Surabaya, Boncafe!
This is Boncafe in Graha Family branch. They have lots of other branches, since they're an old brand, everybody in Surabaya knows Boncafe.
All of their restaurants are so comfy and have a calm ambience, with a bit of colonial style touch. But this one has a very nice backyard. Feels like you were in Italy or something 😆
About the food, you don't even question it. They're a leading brand since 1977. The price might be a bit expensive, but worth everything. My favorite would be Medallion Steak with mashed potato.
Alongside Boncafe, there's also a well-known cafe and Ice Cream shop, Le Cafe Gourmand.
So if you haven't heard about this or haven't tried Boncafe yet, just go now!
Discover Nature in Metropolitan City!!
This is Rustic Market at Gunung Sari Surabaya. Actually Rustic Market have other branches, one in Trawas and one in Graha Natura Surabaya. But I went here because this one was the closest from my home.
From the main road, you can't see the inside of this place. It was quite surprising when you entered there and saw all of the greens, the field, the trees, wooden barn and everything rustic themed. The area was huge, too!
I felt like I may have taken too many photos there, but hey, there were too many good spots! My son really loved walking around the place, looking at plants, the small woods, just exploring things.
I gotta say that the food and drinks were pricey here. And the parking fee was 10K for a car. But you can get the views, photos, nature, live music, and relaxing time? And there was no minimum purchase either. So what are you waiting for!!
Demandailing, the OG of Cafe Culture!
Demandailing was the *cafe hype* before cafe hype was even a thing. It has been there since I was at uni, and this place here in Klampis, is their first before any other branch. It wasn't as big as their other branches, but still nice, stylish, and comfy.
The food and drinks, you don't even have to worry about. Demandailing is still here (and even multiplies) for a reason, because their F&Bs actually taste good! Not like those new overpriced, aesthetic and instagrammable cafe but got no taste in food and drinks.
Too bad the garden at the back and the added room, although very pretty, they were smelly. Smelled kind of like sewer? Hope they fix that problem soon.
Chilling in the town 😎
THE PIT CAFE
Address📍
Putat Indah Tengah I/20, Surabaya, Indonesia
Ambiance ☁️
A hidden gem in town, beautiful hangout spot you might want to check out! The interior reminds me of Santorini! Clean monochromatic style never fails.
Highlights ✨
The swimming pool catches out people’s attention which is a perfect spot to take pictures and enjoy your ice coffee and have a chitchat with your friends.

Botanika, a Green House Restaurant!
Based on the name, Botanika is an Indonesian Restaurant with many botanical plants, very green, with lots of wood and brick textures, inside a building that looks like a green house! It was bright inside because they used a lot of natural lighting. And also almost all of the plants were natural, real plants!
The taste of the food itself was delicious, too! The taste was not too strong on the mouth, so it was more like a tasty but soft on the palate.
If you are a foreigner or anybody that wants to try Indonesian food in Surabaya, you have to go to this place. Botanika Restaurant is on Manyar Kertoarjo Street, Surabaya, and opens early at 7.30 AM!
This is a Toy's HEAVEN! Multi @Ciputra World Surabaya
Multi used to be smaller shops in several malls in Surabaya. But the other stores were closed, and they made the biggest Toys and Hobbies store in the city instead!
They also put big Avengers statues at the storefront, like Hulk, and a full size showcase of Ironman armor suits from the first movie until the latest.
If you're a fan of Gundam and model kit building, miniatures, figurines, this is the place. Tamiya? Star Wars? Or even usual childrens toys like Hot Wheels and Barbie? You'll find them all here!
If you're tired and need a place to chill, there is also a good cafe called Nordic in this store.
GION Market, Newest Hangout Spot in Surabaya!
This is a new spot in South of Surabaya, Gion Market. It reminded me so much of Diorama Food Theater in Malang, which shares a similar concept, like a food court but each store in a different little building.
This Gion Market is Japanese-themed, and I think they had more choices of F&Bs. But the only thing I have to complain about is, this place is so hot if you come at day. And if you come here around dinner time, it will be so crowded, so full.
Anyway, I tried a new matcha cafe there called Iucha, their Genmaicha was nice, but their matcha soft serve was just.. okay. It was creamy, but for me, I could barely taste the matcha.
You should visit this place around 4PM, when the air is colder and the sun isn't that bright, preferably on weekdays.
Locaāhands at Tunjungan Surabaya
This is another branch of Locaāhands restaurant in Surabaya. It takes place in the heart of Surabaya, center of the crowd, at Tunjungan Street. Since Tunjungan is a heritage destination, so this restaurant is in a colonial building. It was built when the Dutch were still in Indonesia.
I've tried their food on another branch, it was really expensive but was in a big portion and tasted good. So it was kind of worth the price.
In this Tunjungan branch I tried their Peach Mint tea, so refreshing and not overly sweet. The capuccino coffee was very smooth, but good.
