Wat Sri Chum, worship Phra Phuttha Ajana (the talking Buddha) 🙏🙏

🙏🙏 Wat Sri Chum is an ancient religious site in the Sukhothai Historical Park. It is located in the northwest outside the original city walls in Tambon Muang Kao, Amphoe Mueang Sukhothai, Sukhothai Province. This temple enshrines a large Buddha statue in the Mara-Vijaya posture called "Phra Achana". The Buddha statue is enshrined in a pavilion, which has now collapsed, leaving only the surrounding walls without a roof. It remains as an outdoor Buddha statue to this day. ❤️❤️ Legend Inside Wat Sri Chum, there is an interesting story that has been passed down. The Buddha statue enshrined in this temple, called "Phra Phuttha Achana", is a Buddha statue that can speak. According to legend, when King Naresuan the Great led his army to suppress the rule in Sawankhalok, he called a meeting of generals and soldiers at Wat Sri Chum first. However, during this war, the soldiers did not have much spirit to fight because the Thais had to kill each other. This was due to King Naresuan's quick wit and determination to build morale and encouragement for his soldiers. Therefore, a ceremony was held to divination with the Buddha image. He divination was made that if he came back victorious in this battle, Phra Buddha Achana should answer. However, if he did not win in this battle, he did not have to answer anything. The result of the divination was that Phra Buddha Achana answered back. All the soldiers who heard it all thought that the Buddha image’s squealing was a miracle of Phra Buddha Achana of Wat Sri Chum. As a result, the morale of King Naresuan’s army greatly increased in fighting for the country. However, in reality, the voice that many people thought was the voice of the Buddha image was actually a clever strategy of King Naresuan. He ordered people to climb up and hide in a small tunnel behind Phra Buddha Achana’s head and to respond to him in order to boost the soldiers’ morale, which was very important in fighting a war. By sending people up to speak in the tunnel behind the Buddha image, the voice would be heard as if the Buddha image was really speaking. This is the origin of the story that has been passed down of the Buddha statue at Wat Si Chum of the Sukhothai Kingdom. 📣📣 Currently, tourists are not allowed to enter the tunnel to prevent the scratching of old paintings on the walls. This is to preserve ancient objects such as paintings and prevent dangers that may occur from falling from the top of the wall.
