The setting felt like a glimpse into a new era of campus life: sleek counters, ambient music, students hunched over laptops with venti cups in hand, swapping lecture notes over croissants. A far cry from the nasi lemak packets of yesteryear. I ordered a classic Americano—bold, no-nonsense, much like the fast pace of this generation. It had that comforting bitterness, smoothened by familiarity. Paired with it was a warm chicken cheese burger: tender patty, melted cheese, and a bun that held up well—simple, satisfying, and surprisingly substantial for a morning bite. Yet beyond the food and drink, what lingered most was the contrast. Where once “food on campus” meant sustenance, today it seems to offer students a small taste of the wider world, conveniently within reach. It’s not just a cup of coffee. It’s a symbol of how much things have changed—and how some experiences, like breakfast before class, continue to connect us across generations, just dressed in different flavours.
