Sweden (Swedish: Sverige) is a country located on the Scandinavian Peninsula and is one of the five Nordic countries. The capital is Stockholm. It is bordered by Norway to the west, and shares a northeastern border with Finland. It is also bordered by the Skagerrak Strait and the Kattegat Strait to the southwest, and the Baltic Sea and Gulf of Bothnia to the east. Sweden faces Denmark, Germany, Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia across the sea, with a coastline of 2,181 kilometers and a total area of 449,964 square kilometers, making it the largest country in northern Europe. Sweden is located in the eastern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula in northern Europe, bordering Finland to the northeast with a border length of 586 kilometers; neighboring Norway to the west with a border length of 1619 kilometers; facing the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia to the east, across the sea from Russia, and facing the North Sea to the southwest, across the sea from Denmark and the United Kingdom. The territory covers an area of 449,964 square kilometers (excluding territorial waters). The territorial waters extend 12 nautical miles, with a coastline of approximately 2,181 kilometers, and about 15% of the land is within the Arctic Circle.
