#2023travelwish #celebratewithtrip #awesomepic #tripblazers #mytripvlog #foodie #campingglamping The Dona Maria II Fortress was constructed in 1852 following the direction of Engineer António de Azevedo e Cunha to provide assistance to the Mong-HaFortress, which helped to consolidate the military defences in the northernarea of the peninsula. The fortress is located at the top of Dona Maria II Hill.On the 16th January, 1945, the fortress was bombarded by American military aircrafts during the Pacific War. The plan of this fortress follows the form of an irregular hexagonal design. The main access is enabled through a drawbridge, inspired by a typeof access used in medieval times. After crossing the gateway, there is acorridor with avaulted ceiling and reccessed side-walls, where guards would secure the area while being hidden. Inside the fortress, there used to be agunpowder deposit and a water reservoir.
