Mirissa is truly a premier destination for whale watching. From 2017 to 2023, every visit has been rewarding with sightings of blue whales, fin whales, and minke whales. However, it's worth noting that 50% of visitors experience seasickness. On lucky days, whales can be spotted just 15 minutes after departure, but generally, the best sightings occur in waters 40 minutes out. Minke whales often appear in groups, offering a spectacular view, while blue whales are usually seen alone or in pairs, rarely in groups of three. Typically, you'll have the chance to observe them surfacing 3-4 times, with each surfacing lasting 4-6 times before they dive for 10-20 minutes.
