However, if you expect scenes like those in movies or TV shows, you might be setting yourself up for disappointment unless you're exceptionally lucky. Mirissa offers a high success rate of 98% for spotting whales from December to April, and indeed, we saw many. The excitement on the boat was palpable, with people exclaiming 'Wow' and 'Over there,' but the whales were often far away, making it difficult to capture them on camera. The boat trip lasts nearly four hours, and the captain ensures everyone sees the whales and enjoys the journey before heading back. It can be a bit uncomfortable, especially if you're prone to seasickness and avoid drinking water to prevent nausea. If you think the four-hour trip is worth the distant views of whales, then go for it; otherwise, it might not be for you. Fortunately, on the return trip, the crew offers delicious fruits like pineapple and watermelon, which are a delightful treat. While the service isn't extraordinary, there's a genuine sense of kindness from everyone. Even during the stilt fishing experience, where a 1000 LKR 'actor fee' is charged, the fishermen kindly wash your feet after the photo session.
