An overlooked historical site: the Smolensk City Wall.

🦨The ancient cities of Russia also used city walls as defensive facilities. Unfortunately, the city walls of large cities such as Moscow have disappeared in the process of urban construction. This time, Misha came to the Smolensk City Wall site, which is the largest brick-built ancient city wall in Russia. 🦢The Smolensk City Wall is 6.5 kilometers long and was built in 1595. The thickness of the wall is 5-5.2 meters, with 38 towers, 16 of which have city gates, guarding the entrances and exits of the city. The foundation of the city wall is paved with large stones, and the wall is composed of two vertical brick walls. The space between the brick walls is filled with cobblestones and lime mortar is poured. There are passages connected to the tower, ammunition storage rooms, and rifle and cannon firing holes on the city wall. 🦚The top of the wall is a brick-built battle platform with a width of 4-4.5 meters. It is said that carriages can be driven freely along the city wall. The height of the city wall varies, depending on the terrain: the city wall is lower behind the canyon and ditch, and the city wall is higher on the flat terrain. The east, south, and west sections of the city wall are surrounded by a moat filled with water, and the north side is the Dnieper River.
