The Glamorous Transformation of a Hardware Store

Some say that Chye Seng Huat Hardware is one of the must-visit coffee shops in the world. This cafe, transformed from a hardware store, was already full of charm, and with the endorsement of world-class chef Andre Chiang, its popularity has naturally soared. For years, it has been a sensational coffee shop in Singapore. The cafe didn't even bother to change its name, simply calling it Chye Seng Huat Hardware. In fact, you'll find that the coffee shop continues the retro atmosphere throughout. It reminds me of the Nam Kok Cafe in Kowloon City, which has a similar vibe, but Chye Seng Huat takes it to the next level, as it also houses a bakery, a coffee school, and even a boutique. Today, I came for breakfast, like a Mexican wrap filled with thick tamagoyaki and bacon, which was super filling. I loved the soft wrap, the very tender eggs, and the crispy bacon bits that added a rich texture. It would be impossible for me to finish it alone, but half a portion with some other small items was just right. I also ordered a New York croissant, without any fancy toppings or molten effects, just back to basics, which I actually prefer. The pastry was really fragrant, crispy but not hard, and the bread inside was so delicious that I fell in love with it. The coffee here is, of course, top-notch. A simple cup of Flat White with a nutty flavor was exactly what I wanted. Hand-brewed coffee, without a doubt, brings out the original flavor of the coffee beans. I must say, the conservation efforts in Singapore are excellent. It's definitely not an excuse for speculators to make a huge profit under the guise of revitalization.
