Tucked away from Singapore's bustling cityscape, Rifle Range Nature Reserve offers a serene escape for nature lovers.
The hike is moderately challenging, with well-marked trails winding through lush greenery and a tranquil reservoir. The highlight? A stunning panoramic view at the summit that makes the effort worthwhile. Birdwatchers will delight in the variety of species, while the peaceful atmosphere allows for moments of quiet reflection. It’s less crowded than other parks, adding to its charm.

DONQ Bakery at Takashimaya Shopping Centre
This Japanese bakery is known for its delicious pastries, including miniature croissants, cheesecakes, and imo mochi (glutinous rice cake with sweet potato and black sesame seeds). If you’re planning to visit, you’ll find it at Basement 2 of Takashimaya Shopping Centre, located at 391 Orchard Road, Singapore.
Many customers appreciate the wide selection of tasty buns and pastries, with favorites like the mentaiko france and cream puff pastry. However, be prepared for potentially long queues, especially during peak times.
If you enjoy fresh and unique bakery items, it’s a great place to check out!

St Leaven Bakery at Takashimaya
St Leaven Bakery is a gourmet bakery located in the heart of Orchard Road, within the Takashimaya Department Store. Known for its handmade products, the bakery uses the finest ingredients to create a variety of delicious baked goods. Some popular items include their matcha buns, milk bread, and tonkatsu sandwiches.
Their Matcha Buns are soft and fluffy with a rich matcha flavor, perfect for tea lovers. Milk Bread, known for its light and airy texture, this bread is a classic favorite. Whereas the Tonkatsu Sandwich is savory option with crispy pork cutlet, it’s a satisfying choice for a quick meal. Other than that, their buttery and flaky croissants are a must-try for any pastry enthusiast.
The bakery is open daily from 10am to 9:30pm. Have you tried any of their pastries before? If so, which one is your favorite?

Experience with Artists for Awareness and YMCA Youth for Causes
On Saturday, August 18th, 2024, the Visual Arts Centre in Dhoby Ghaut transformed into a vibrant hub of artistic expression and heartfelt support. The venue buzzed with energy as people from all walks of life came together to celebrate local artists and contribute to a noble cause.
Visitors were captivated by the stunning array of paintings on display. Each piece, unique in its style and message, told a story of resilience, hope, and beauty. The artists, many of whom had personal connections to the cause, poured their hearts into their work, creating pieces that resonated deeply with everyone who saw them. In addition to the paintings, there were exquisite pottery and crafts that showcased the incredible talent within our community. These handcrafted items, each meticulously created, added a tactile dimension to the event, allowing attendees to appreciate the skill and dedication of the artists.
What struck me most about the Artists for Awareness Fundraiser was the sense of unity and purpose that permeated the event. Every painting sold, every piece of pottery purchased, and every donation made contributed directly to the fight against cancer. It was heartening to see how art could bring people together, inspire generosity, and make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by this disease. I left the event feeling inspired, hopeful, and grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful cause.

Date: 18 August 2024

🇸🇬 NDP vibes at Changi Airport
#nationalday #100WaysOfTravel
There is so much National Day vibes at Changi Airport and so many instagrammable photo spots to commemorate NDP 2024. If you have time, you can enter the transit area early and take the sky trains to go from Terminal 1, 2 and 3 to spot the different photo spots. I like the NDP 59 setup best and it is just before the arrival immigration area. Our Changi Airport is always on the point for festival decorations and there are always fresh orchid everywhere. If you are here at night, you can see many gardeners are working throughout the night to keep the airport so vibrant and lively.

Peranakan High Tea Workshop at Jewel Changi
I recently attended the Peranakan High Tea Workshop at ABC Cooking Studio in Jewel Changi Airport in celebration of Singapore National Day, and it was an amazing experience. The workshop lasted about three hours, and I learned so much about Peranakan cuisine, one of Singaporean local favourites.
First, we made Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce. The chicken was marinated in a mix of spices, and we grilled it to perfection. The peanut sauce was creamy and delicious, a perfect match for the satay. Next, we prepared Kuih Dadar, which are pandan crêpes filled with sweet coconut. The bright green color of the crêpes was beautiful, and the filling was rich and flavorful. We also made Angku Kuih, a traditional Peranakan dessert. These are chewy rice cakes with a sweet mung bean filling. Shaping them in the special moulds was a fun and unique experience. One of the highlights was the Salted Egg Scone. This was a twist on the classic scone, with salted egg and curry leaves adding a savory touch. It was a delightful surprise and tasted amazing. Finally, we made Cendol, a refreshing dessert with pandan jelly, red beans, and gula Melaka syrup. It was the perfect way to end the workshop.
The instructor was friendly and helpful, guiding us through each step. The studio was well-equipped, and the atmosphere was welcoming. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning about Peranakan cuisine.

Shopping for Nature Home Decorations
I'm going with my wife to shop for nature-themed home decorations at Slow Green Nature Decor. Slow Green at Plaza Singapura is a special store that sells home decorations inspired by nature. They use preserved natural materials that don't need any care and can last for many years. Unlike real plants, preserved ones don't need watering or sunlight, so they're great for people with busy lives. The way they preserve the plants is good for the environment because it cuts down on waste and doesn't need constant replacements. The price is on high side but it lasts for years.

McDonald's New Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Burger
The Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Burger is inspired by the traditional zi char dish, Ha Cheong Gai, which is a prawn paste fried chicken. This dish is a staple in many Singaporean households and eateries, known for its rich, umami flavor and crispy texture. McDonald’s has taken this beloved dish and transformed it into a burger, making it accessible to a wider audience.
At the heart of the Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Burger is a crispy chicken patty that has been marinated in prawn paste, giving it a distinctive and robust flavor. Each bite is packed with the familiar taste of Ha Cheung Gai, but in a new and exciting format. To complement the Ha Cheung Gai Chicken Burger, McDonald’s Singapore has also introduced other local-inspired items such as the Satay Chicken Burger, Satay Beef Burger, and Crisscut Fries. Additionally, the Thai Milk Tea Frappé offers a refreshing beverage option that pairs perfectly with the rich flavors of the burger.
