Singapore River

The area was once a fishing village known as Temasek, until it became a trading port under the British Empire; The history of the Lion City is closely linked to the history of the Singapore River. It was on the banks of this river that Sir Stamford Raffles—the founder of modern Singapore—first set foot on this island, and it was the place where the prince Sang Nila Utama saw the mystical lion, which eventually became the name of this city.
