From Brunch to Books - Tanjong Pagar Day Out

Today, I'm playing tourist in Tanjong Pagar, stepping out of my Eastside comfort zone for a change. While my usual stomping grounds lie elsewhere, curiosity has led me to the CBD for a spin class on Cecil Street. Little did I know, this bustling area holds a trove of hidden gems waiting to be explored. For those unfamiliar with the area, here's a guide to spending a fulfilling half-day at Tanjong Pagar. Brunch O'clock at Five Oars - 11.30-1pm Five Oars is my go-to spot for a hearty brunch or lunch. Their extensive menu offers a variety of food and beverage options at reasonable prices. I particularly recommend their Salmon toastie and Salmon rosti. As a rosti enthusiast, I appreciate the delicate balance of crispiness and tenderness in Five Oars' rendition. The ambiance is relaxed, although arriving before peak hours is advisable to avoid long queues. Address: 43 Tg Pagar Rd, #01-01, Singapore 088464 Price: $$$ Sweet Treats at Tsujiri - 1pm-2pm No meal is complete without dessert, and Tsujiri satisfies our sweet cravings with their unique Japanese soft serve, infused with tea flavours like genmaicha and matcha. We indulged in the houjicha mochi flavour, which was a delightful blend of sweetness and texture. The cozy, Japanese-themed decor adds to the charm of the experience, making it a must-visit for those who love ice-cream! Address: 124 Tg Pagar Rd, Singapore 088533 Price: $$$ Book Nooks - 2pm-3pm After a satisfying treat, we stumbled upon Littered with Books, a quaint bookstore tucked away in a corner. Despite its longstanding presence, I had overlooked this serene haven until now. The tranquil ambience invites visitors to unwind, browse, and immerse themselves in the vast collection of books spanning various genres. It's a sanctuary for book lovers, where time seems to stand still amidst the hushed conversations and rustling pages. With such an inviting atmosphere, it's easy to lose oneself in the world of literature for hours on end. So, if you ever find yourself in Tanjong Pagar and unsure of where to begin, remember, here's a guide to spending a fulfilling half-day in this vibrant neighbourhood.
