Prasat Suor Prat - the 12 Towers

Prasat Suor Prat, also known as the "Towers of the Leper King," is an ancient architectural marvel located in the Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This historical site dates back to the 12th century during the reign of King Jayavarman VII of the Khmer Empire. The structure is a unique array of twelve towers, which line both sides of the Victory Way, the grand processional avenue leading to the Angkor Thom complex. Each tower represents a step in the spiritual journey to enlightenment, and their arrangement symbolizes the cosmic Mount Meru, considered the center of the universe in Hindu mythology. The name "Towers of the Leper King" has its roots in a later legend that attributed the site to a leprous king, but in reality, there is no historical evidence to support this claim. The actual purpose of Prasat Suor Prat remains a subject of speculation among historians and archaeologists. Prasat Suor Prat, along with the entire Angkor Archaeological Park, was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. It continues to be a popular destination for tourists and history enthusiasts, offering a glimpse into Cambodia's rich cultural heritage and the grandeur of the Khmer Empire's architectural achievements. #travel #mytripvlog #2023travelwish #historical #temple
