The White Pagoda at Miaoying Temple

#getgoing2025 The White Pagoda at Miaoying Temple is the only well-preserved relic from the Yuan Dynasty (1271–1368) that still stands in #beijing. It’s the earliest and largest stupa (lama pagoda) of its kind in existence in China. It’s famously known alongside the Yuan Dynasty capital, Dadu, as the “Golden City and Jade Tower.” The pagoda was built by a Nepalese artist named Anige, who was deeply influenced by art from a young age and displayed remarkable skills in architecture, painting, and casting. He arrived in China at the age of 16. He was recommended by the Yuan Dynasty’s State Preceptor, Phags-pa, to Kublai Khan (reign: 1260–1294) and earned high respect from the emperor. Historical records show that in his lifetime, he completed three large towers and nine temples, along with various castings and paintings. He left a lasting impact on future generations.
