2024 Shenzhen Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in December)
The poster child of China's economic miracle, Shenzhen in southern Guangdong province transformed itself from a sleepy fishing village to a world-class megacity in less than 40 years. After being designated as one of the country's first Special Economic Zones in 1979, Shenzhen's economy grew over 13,000 times to become the business powerhouse it is today.Shenzhen sits on the east bank of the Pearl River estuary and borders Hong Kong in the south. The city consists of 9 districts and 1 new area, of which three are most popular with visitors. Futian District is the modern heart of the town or the CBD, where the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center, main government offices, and top 5-star hotels are located; Luohu District has the land border cross to Hong Kong, Shenzhen Railway Station, and major shopping complexes; and Nanshan district is best known for the Shenzhen Hi-Tech Industrial Park and several theme parks. Many know Shenzhen as China's tech hub or China's Silicon Valley. Home to tech giants such as Tencent and Huawei, Shenzhen is a highly desirable place to do business. The city's business-friendly policies and highly educated labor force attract more Chinese and international companies and start-ups every year. In addition to being the largest electronic product distribution center in China, this futuristic metropolis also has one of the world's top environmentally-friendly transit systems. In 1979, Shenzhen only had a population of around 20,000, but as of 2020, it is classed as a megacity with over 17 million people. Despite the high population, Shenzhen has won national prizes as a garden city and for its efforts in natural restoration. There are plenty of green spaces, stunning gardens, and nature reserves for people to explore. Top choices include the Mangrove Nature Reserve, Talent Park, Longtan Park, and Fair Lake Botanical Garden. There are numerous ways to travel to and around Shenzhen. If you are flying, Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport (SZX) serves the city and the region. There are multiple transfer options between the airport and city center, such as the metro (Metro Line 11 at Airport Station, which is directly linked to the Ground Transport Center), airport express and shuttle bus (around a dozen routes to key locations across the city), and by taxi.

Weekend Getaway 039 | Aesthetic Supplement: Vast Impressions Exhibition
Weekends in Shenzhen are all about exploring. Personally, I enjoy the lifestyle around Shekou more than Futian District, as it feels more lively and down-to-earth. Occasionally, I also visit exhibitions to enhance my aesthetic sense.
This time, I visited the solo exhibition 'Vast Impressions' by renowned French artist Jean-François Héchier. The exhibition features his large-scale works, especially the newly created 'Giverny' series, inspired by Monet's garden residence. The vibrant colors and large canvases make you feel surrounded by gardens, trees, and people, as if stepping into a dream.
Even though I don't fully understand art 🎨, I still found it beautiful and worthwhile. After the exhibition, you can take a leisurely stroll along the nearby waterfront, making for a relaxing day. Highly recommended 👍

Go north for tea 🫖 Xinfulou Seafood Restaurant·Banquet Hall (Dongmen Branch)
#NovemberGood Places2024
✨Xinfulou Seafood Restaurant and Banquet Hall (Dongmenmen) is located on the 2nd floor of Zhongtailai Hotel, No. 57 Yongxin Street. In recent years, it has become very popular among Hong Kong tourists ~
✨This is an old-looking teahouse, full of the feeling of a Cantonese teahouse. The environment is average and a bit old, but it is very popular and it will be full anytime you go. The decoration style is in line with the Cantonese people's habit of having a lively morning tea. I ordered several dim sums, including the classic siomai and shrimp dumplings. They are delicious, rich in fillings, and taste good. They are steamed upon ordering and served quickly.

Shenzhen Massage SPA#slowly
#ShenzhenAttractions
The first choice when choosing to go north to Shenzhen during the holidays is to relax with a massage. Slow Life is a very famous massage SPA shop in Shenzhen. It has 60 branches in Shenzhen. After experiencing the Minzhi Yifangli store last time, this time I came to experience the Hongshan store. La.
This restaurant is slowly opening in the Longhua Jiuzhuan Apartment Building. It is on the 24th floor. The overall decoration style is home-like, with wooden floors and linen sofas. It feels like having a massage at home, warm and comfortable.
First of all, the young lady gently asked me what kind of project I was doing. This time I experienced moxibustion + massage. The lady will first ask if it is difficult, and then adjust the intensity during the massage. The technique is professional and perfect, with simple light music as the background. After the massage, you will be very relaxed. It is indeed a good way for working people to relieve stress and relax.
The overall decoration is very Chinese-style, the hygiene is very clean, and the price is not high. It is only one subway station away from Shenzhen North Railway Station. I recommend it to friends who are looking for a cost-effective massage.

Come to Shenzhen to check in@Dawang Ancient Temple
#ShenzhenAttractions
The Dawang Ancient Temple in Dachong, Shenzhen, is the largest existing Dawang temple in Shenzhen. It was built in the Ming Dynasty, underwent several restorations in the Qing Dynasty, and was rebuilt again in 1996.
The current Dawang Ancient Temple has a layout of five bays, two entrances and one well, with a width of 15.3 meters and a depth of 17.8 meters. It includes the mountain gate, front hall, sacrificial pavilion, left and right wing rooms, left and right verandahs, left and right side halls and back hall. It is one of the many South China Sea temples in coastal areas that worships Zhu Rong, the God of the South China Sea. The ancient temple faces the mountains and the sea. There are stone lions and stone drums in the front, towering ancient trees in the back, and many murals painted in the corridors.
The wooden screens carved with different flowers and plants, the majestic eagle carvings on the beams, and the ancient door handles have stains left by daily touch. These tiny details, like the Zheng Ancestral Hall, have been renovated over the years during renovations. Saved.
According to reports, every year on the 15th day of the second lunar month, the Dachong Dawang Ancient Temple will hold a Dawang Birthday event. Surrounding residents and villagers and believers will gather here to burn incense, pay homage, and pray for good weather in the coming year. Friends who come near Dachong in Nanshan, remember to come to Dawang Ancient Temple to pay homage! !

Laoyou Noodles, one of the three major noodles in Guangxi, is also available in Shenzhen. It is a traditional snack in Nanning and Guangxi, with a rich and distinctive flavor. Nanning people can say about it, "With a bowl of noodles in hand, you don't want to leave for ten miles."
For those who have never tried Laoyou Noodles, let me sum it up: the sour and spicy soup is very appetizing. The soup of Laoyou Noodles is sour, spicy and refreshing, and the soup is fragrant. It is the kind that even if you don’t have an appetite, you will want to eat it!
This Laoyou Noodle shop is packed every day. You can get authentic Nanning Laoyou Noodles for only 25 yuan. It’s cheap and delicious, and the ingredients are super nice! The most expensive ancestral hall in Shenzhen@Zheng’s Ancestral Hall
#ShenzhenAttractions
If location is also a factor in historical monuments, then the Zheng Ancestral Hall must be the most "expensive" historic site in Shenzhen!
The Zheng Ancestral Hall is located in Dachong 1st Road, Dachong Village, Yuehai Street, the most expensive area in Shenzhen. It was built in the Ming Dynasty and has a history of more than 700 years. It has been well preserved after successive expansions and repairs.
Stepping into the ancestral hall, time slows down. Different from the cookie-cutter high-rise buildings in the CBD, Zheng's Ancestral Hall shows a Cantonese-style architectural style with Lingnan characteristics. The front door opens to a carved screen and a wooden school platform. When you look up, you can see the brick, wood and stone frame of the fish spine and the detailed carvings of the pavilion. The craftsmanship of the craftsmen is amazing.
Precisely because Zheng's Ancestral Hall is located in a high-tech area with the fastest pace in Shenzhen and surrounded by high-tech buildings, it further proves that Shenzhen, a modern city, respects history and culture. The Zheng family was one of the first immigrants to settle in Shenzhen and has a long history. Their family has produced many talented people, and their descendants are now spread across the Pearl River Delta, Hong Kong and Macao. This Zheng's ancestral hall is a testimony to the history of their family.

Weekend Trip to the North! Happy Coast City! Unique HEYTEA Flagship Store! Lakeside Sunset View!
Every weekend, I head north for a trip! This time, I visited Happy Coast City in Shenzhen, and specifically went to the HEYTEA flagship store! This is the only HEYTEA store in Shenzhen that offers cakes. I ordered the bursting coconut cake, which is quite large, so it's suitable for two to three people! This HEYTEA flagship store has two floors, and the interior design is quite stylish!
In addition, I enjoyed a beautiful sunset by the lake in Happy Coast City! I highly recommend visiting this place when you head north!

Fewer people, beautiful scenery all to yourself
🌹Finally, a smooth entry experience! At 9:30 am, I easily entered this sea of flowers.
🌸Yuxiu Garden, a must-see place, is even more beautiful this year, with a sea of flowers that will instantly immerse you.
🌼Although there are still many tourists in the morning, the number of people has been greatly reduced compared to the weekend. You only need to wait a little while to take a picture.
🌺Walking around Yuxiu Garden, I feel very happy, as if all my troubles have gone with the wind.

Annual Grand Flower Exhibition
Bijiashan Park is located on the northern side of Shenzhen city center, near Futian Center. The park features a series of ten small peaks, with three main peaks standing east to west, forming the Bijiashan Garden. Recently, a week-long Greater Bay Area Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Flower Exhibition was held, with free admission. The exhibition also included the nearby Lianhuashan Garden, transforming the entire garden into a sea of flowers. Various types of flowers were displayed, covering a vast area, making the exhibition quite spectacular. Additionally, there are resting areas, stalls selling flower-related items, and an open-air garden restaurant, making it a perfect place to spend half a day.
📍Address: Meigang Road, Futian District, Shenzhen
💰Average Cost: Free Admission
💞Recommended Reason: A sea of flowers with numerous varieties

One of the most beautiful parks in Shenzhen.
📍Address: 2100 Shenyuan Road, Haishan Street, Yantian District, Shenzhen
🏖️Environment/Facilities: Rare European-style design
🕰️Business Hours: 24 hours
💰Average Cost: Free entry
A few minutes' walk straight from Exit C of Shenzhen Haishan Station will bring you to this unassuming Haishan Park. If it weren't for other netizens recommending this park, I wouldn't have deliberately climbed the stairs to visit. The entire park is quite clean, with many stray cats and dogs. When you reach the central part, you will arrive at the most beautiful area, like a paradise. The artistic design mode imitates the Spanish Park Güell, with a high degree of restoration. Although the place is not large, there are many interesting photo spots. You can also visit the interior and top of the tower, which is quite unique. There are indeed many attractions in Yantian District.
Free flower show in Shenzhen.
🌸Shenzhen! The annual Bougainvillea Show at Lianhuashan Park is now open!
📍Location: Yuxiu Garden, South Gate of Lianhuashan Park, Futian, Shenzhen
🕒Exhibition period: November 9–17, 2024
🎫Tickets: Free
🌸We recommend visiting in the morning! The earlier the better! It gets very crowded in the afternoon!
🌸If you can't make it during the exhibition period, don't worry! Bougainvillea doesn't wilt that quickly, so the flowers will still be there after the exhibition period! Plus, there will be fewer people, so you can probably visit anytime in November.
✅Transportation
🚇Subway: Exit F1 of Shaoniangong Station, turn right and walk straight for about 5 minutes to the South Gate of Lianhuashan Park
🚶Walk from UpperHills via the overpass towards Lianhuashan Park
✅Tips
🅿️Parking: The parking lot is closed to the public during the exhibition period. If you drive, you can park at the following places:
🌟North Parking Lot of Shenzhen Book City: The Kite Square is right above
🌟Ground Parking Lot of Shenzhen Concert Hall: The South Gate and Bombax ceiba are across the street
🌟UpperHills: Walk across the overpass. It's far from the exhibition, and it will probably be packed on holidays, so we recommend visiting on weekdays.
👗Clothing: Simple, plain white clothes go well with the colorful flowers!
