Dajiu Lake (Shennongjia Forest District)

Dajiu Lake Scenic Area, known as the "Outpost of Bashan," is located in the western part of Shennongjia, Hubei Province. The scenic area is at an altitude of 1700 meters and covers an area of 36 square kilometers. It is the only subalpine wetland. Dajiu Lake, which looks like nine peaks, is said in folklore to be the nine ox tails dragged upside down into the lake, corroborating the story of "Xue Gang's Rebellion against the Tang Dynasty." Emperor Zhongzong of Tang was demoted to Luling King of Fangzhou. In a dream, he was enlightened by the ancestor Shennong and specially appointed Xue Gang as the commander. Xue Gang stationed and trained troops in Dajiu Lake, overthrew the Wu Zhou Dynasty in one fell swoop, restored the Tang Dynasty, and Emperor Zhongzong regained the throne. Dajiu Lake is suitable for summer vacation and high mountain skiing in winter. The scenic area is home to 141 families, 366 genera, and 964 species (including varieties and cultivated species) of higher plants, among which there are 5 national key protected plants, 3 national precious tree species, and 13 families and 18 species of mosses. Dajiu Lake Wetland is the fourth national wetland park approved by China's forestry authorities. It is the largest and highest subalpine wetland in Central China. It is the best-preserved North Subtropical subalpine peat bog wetland in Hubei Province and Central China to date. It is a rare subalpine peat bog wetland in the mid-latitude region of the world. It is the first national wetland park far from the city. Dajiu Lake National Wetland Park
