KATELYN STEELE

The first stop in Shaoxing~ Keyan

Keyan Scenic Area is located at the foot of Keyan Mountain, consisting of Keyan, Jianhu, and Luzhen. Keyan is the core of the entire scenic area. During the Three Kingdoms period, it was once a quarry, featuring various unique landscapes such as stone cliffs, caves, pools, and walls. The scenic area has two main entrances, one is Keyan and the other is Luzhen. Both gates allow entry to the scenic area and are not far from each other. Since it is not the peak season, we chose the traditional Keyan-Jianhu-Luzhen route. The Keyan scenic area includes four major attractions: the Stone Buddha, Mirror Water Bay, Yuezong Celebrity Garden, and Yuanshan Garden. Among them, the 'Heavenly Crafted Great Buddha' and 'Miraculous Cloud Stone Bone' are quite special. The 'Heavenly Crafted Great Buddha' was carved during the Sui Dynasty, taking three generations of stonemasons to complete, and is quite imposing; the 'Miraculous Cloud Stone Bone' is wider at the top and narrower at the bottom, resembling an inverted pagoda, over 30 meters high with a base circumference of only 4 meters. It seems top-heavy but has stood in the wind and rain for more than a thousand years, which is astonishing. Jianhu is Shaoxing's 'Mother Lake', with four attractions built around it: the Eastern Han Dynasty Flute Pavilion, Southern Ocean Autumn Rafting, Five Bridges Moon Stepping, and Gourd Drunken Island. Here, you can take a black-awning boat and float on Jianhu. Luzhen was originally a fictional town in the writings of Lu Xun. The Luzhen scenic area is a rural town theme park built to recreate the 'Luzhen' from Lu Xun's writings. Luzhen is located next to Jianhu, with shops, inns, cultural exhibition halls, stage gates, and more.
