Compared to Suzhou and Hangzhou, I prefer this low-key small town in the Jiangnan region

This year, I visited many ancient towns, but only Anchang Ancient Town in Zhejiang's Shaoxing gave me the true experience of a Jiangnan water town. A long and narrow river runs through the entire ancient town, and walking among the stone bridges, black-awning boats, and white walls with black tiles is extremely beautiful. 🚗 How to get to Anchang Ancient Town As one of the four major ancient towns in Shaoxing, Anchang Ancient Town is located in Keqiao District. Departing from the downtown area of Shaoxing, it takes about 40 minutes by self-driving or taxi. 🚌 Public transportation: Take the subway line 1 + bus 805, about 1h. 🎫: There is no admission fee for Anchang Ancient Town, and half a day is enough for a visit. 🚶 Travel Recommendations The beauty of Anchang Ancient Town lies not only in its pristine natural scenery but also in its bustling market life. On one side, there are local snack stalls, and on the other, historic buildings, all in perfect harmony. I strolled around Anchang Ancient Town for half a day and came up with a route that doesn't require backtracking, which you can follow: '📍Main entrance → Suikang Money House → Stone Carving Museum → Shaoxing Xuanjuan Museum → Shiyeguan → Anchang Folk Customs Museum → Ankang Temple → Renchang Sauce Garden → Former Site of Bank of China' To make the most of your visit: 1️⃣ Take a black-awning boat ride. Compared to the small rivers in the downtown area of Shaoxing, the river here is about 2 kilometers long and more extensive, allowing you to experience the charm of Jiangnan while rowing. 🌊 2️⃣ Try the yellow wine popsicle and fermented rice buns. These local specialties are cheap and delicious. 😋 3️⃣ Visit Renchang Sauce Garden. This place was a filming location for 'A Bite of China,' and the garden's 2,000-plus sauce jars are very impressive. 🥘: The ancient town has many snack shops and restaurants, mostly run by locals, where you can taste local specialties. Compared to the crowded ancient towns in Jiangnan, Anchang Ancient Town has fewer tourists and is suitable for leisurely strolls. It's very photogenic, and you can take great pictures just by walking around 📷 (ps: Drone aerial photography of the ancient town is even more beautiful) Next time I come to Shaoxing, I want to visit Anchang Ancient Town again. This niche and beautiful place is really worth it.
