Shantou Architecture | The 'Dongyan Ancient Temple' built against the mountain

Under the afterglow of the setting sun, Dongyan Ancient Temple is like a golden scroll, so beautiful that it intoxicates people. The ancient temple was built on the cliff of Dongshan Mountain. The cliff includes three temples, Zhuoxi Temple, Jinding Temple, and Shiyansi Temple, which are arranged in a product shape. They are all structures that combine through-bucket and lifting-beam. Each temple is built around the mountain peak, complementing caves and boulders, and the scenery is very beautiful. Zhuoxi Ancient Temple, originally known as Baniu Rock, is said to have been built by the high monk Dadian during the Tang Zhenyuan period. Jinding Temple was built in the Southern Song Dynasty. There are huge rocks several feet high on the top of the mountain, with the inscription 'Qingtian Stone'; Shiyansi Temple was built in the Ming Dynasty and was named for its location on the rock. There are currently 51 cliff carvings from the Song Dynasty to modern times in the ancient temple. These carvings not only have various font styles, but also have very rich content. They mainly include travel notes, poems, historical news, religious legends, etc. After more than ten years of careful construction, Dongyan Ancient Temple has completed many projects such as Daxiong Baodian, Guanyin Hall, Wanfo Pavilion, Dining Hall, Monk's House, etc. It is a key cultural relic protection unit and tourist attraction in Chaoyang District. The ancient temple is free to visit. It is recommended to stop halfway up the mountain. You can see the whole view of the temple when you go up.
