Free admission and no detours, discover the hidden routes and less-known scenic spots of Yamdrok Lake!

The self-drive distance from Lhasa to Yamdrok Lake is about 105 kilometers, and most people head straight for the viewing platform, finding the 2-hour drive along the way quite boring. However, we took the Ali southern route and sneakily climbed up from the back of Yamdrok Lake! For dozens of kilometers along the way, it's all about the lake and the sky! Absolutely gorgeous! - In the second picture, the left side is the regular route, and the right side is the route we took, which requires crossing several mountains, and then there are also winding mountain roads. The third picture is a real test of driving skills (consider a 4x4 rental car of 50w or above), for the brave and resolute! But the scenery is indeed beautiful, with the openness of the plateau grassland, where you can almost reach out and touch the sky! - No admission fee is charged at all, and for the eight or nine of us, we even made a little profit~ The lakeside road offers even more pastoral scenery, with mountains full of grass, herds of cattle and sheep by the lake, and a few low houses in the distance, feeling like driving in a painting. - The lake is as blue as the sky, with a shallow layer that is clear enough to see the stones at the bottom of the lake. It is said that every stone under the lake is engraved with Buddhist scriptures, and it is a sacred lake in the hearts of Tibetans, well protected ecologically. Tibetans do not eat fish, but the older generation would dry the fish from Yamdrok Lake and grind it into powder. Whenever there is a woman with a difficult labor, they dissolve it in water for her to drink, and it is sure to facilitate a smooth delivery.
