Yak skins and hair are indispensable raw materials for the production of daily necessities for Tibetans. Yak feces are also an alternative fuel. In remote areas where transportation is poor, yaks are also an important means of transportation. Yaks are thus nicknamed “plateau boats”. In the agricultural areas on the plateau, yaks are an important labor force for plowing fields. Tibetan herders often use yak hair to weave tents. Because yak hair will puff up when exposed to high temperatures and shrink when exposed to low temperatures, yak hair can also protect against rain and snow. When the weather is clear, yak hair is loosely puffed and easy to ventilate. “Yaks” have special survival skills and are gentle and non-aggressive animals, which has also influenced the unique character of Tibetans.
