Upper Tiger Leaping Gorge (Shangri-La section)

Tiger Leaping Gorge is one of the deepest gorges in China, located in Tiger Leaping Gorge Town, Shangri-La City, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. The gorge is about 80 kilometers away from the city of Lijiang, with a total length of 17 kilometers and a vertical height difference of more than 3900 meters, making it one of the deepest gorges in the world. It was once blocked by a landslide, and now the remaining boulders make the water even more turbulent. Tiger Leaping Gorge is divided into upper, middle, and lower sections. The upper section is the narrowest part of the entire gorge, with a river width of only more than 20 meters. There is a huge rock in the middle of the river. It is said that a tiger once leaped over the Jinsha River with this rock. The middle section of the Tiger Leaping Gorge is full of reefs, and the river drops more than 100 meters in less than 5 kilometers. The lower section of the Tiger Leaping Gorge has a "ladder" plank road leading to another village at the foot of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
