Light Space: A Bookstore by Tadao Ando

Located in the massive Aegean Place Shopping Center is Light Space Xinhua Bookstore. An amazing place to relax, this space was designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando with the goal of creating a place where people, books, and culture can intermingle. Over 4000 square meters in size, the pristine environment features wood fittings and tall, arched shelves packed with books. The 7th floor is an open area where you can take in a full view of the whole store. Tables are set up around the store’s coffee bar and students can often be seen doing homework and studying. Next to the coffee bar are stairs leading to the 8th floor, where the high bookshelves are set against a blue, starry sky, creating a spacious area that almost appears to have light coming in directly from the outside.
