“Shanghai’s most beautiful Tang-style ancient architecture” Baoshan Temple’s maple leaves have turned red. The reflection of the water and sky, the swaying red maples, resemble an ancient-style illustration, making people linger. During leisure time, you can also sit in the Shuixin Pavilion to relax and savor tea～ 🏯 Baoshan Temple was originally built in 1511 during the Ming Dynasty, but in 2005, to coordinate with the renovation of Luodian Old Town, it underwent a 5-year relocation and reconstruction, reportedly costing 800 million RMB in total. The new temple’s designer was Yu Zongqiao, a disciple of Liang Sicheng, known as the “Father of Modern Chinese Architecture.” He referenced the Tang Dynasty reconstruction of Foguang Temple on Mount Wutai in Shanxi and the Northern Song architectural classic "Yingzao Fashi," using traditional Chinese wooden mortise and tenon structures to build this temple, recreating the magnificent Tang Dynasty style for the world. No wonder it is the only temple to have won China’s highest architectural engineering quality award, the “Luban Award.” Stepping inside Baoshan Temple feels like entering a beautiful landscape painting, with clearly layered Buddha halls and Dharma halls, pavilions and towers arranged harmoniously, simple and elegant bridges and flowing water, and peaceful ponds and rockeries… ⛩️ Late Tang-style architecture, palace-style layout, all wooden mortise and tenon structure, with deep eaves that are very imposing. ⛩️ The golden pagoda is located next to the Zen garden “Zhiyuan.” The pagoda is 55.3 meters tall, modeled after the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, using the common Tang Dynasty square pagoda design. ⛩️ The temple’s building components are connected by mortise and tenon joints without a single nail, with top-level design and construction. ⛩️ After reconstruction and renovation, today’s temple blends traditional Jiangnan Buddhist architectural style with modern Zen design. 📍 Address: No. 518 Luoxi Road, Luodian Town, Baoshan District 🚆 Transportation: Take Metro Line 7 to the terminal Meilan Lake Station, then transfer to a bus or taxi 🚘 Driving: There is a parking lot on the southwest side of the main gate, 6 RMB/hour 🎫 Tickets: Incense ticket 20 RMB, half price for students and seniors, half price on the 1st and 15th of the lunar month and Buddha’s birthday ⏰ Hours: 07:00-16:00 (no entry after 15:00) ⚠️ Do not take photos inside the halls or of the Buddha statues, keep quiet inside the temple
