Shanghai: A City of Charm and the Delicious Encounter with Dongpo Pork

Shanghai, a cosmopolitan city that seamlessly blends tradition and modernity, always leaves visitors enchanted. Last autumn, I embarked on a three-day solo trip to Shanghai, wandering through bustling streets and quaint alleys, and savoring the mouthwatering Dongpo Pork—a journey filled with unforgettable memories. On the first day, upon arriving in Shanghai, I headed straight to the Bund. The Bund at night is a dazzling spectacle, with the skyscrapers of Lujiazui across the Huangpu River shining brightly. The Oriental Pearl Tower and Shanghai Tower illuminate the night sky, showcasing the city's modern splendor. Strolling along the Bund, with a gentle breeze brushing against my face, I felt the pulse of Shanghai. On the second day, I chose to explore Shanghai's old town—Yu Garden. The classical garden's intricate design, featuring rockeries, ponds, and pavilions, transported me back in time. After touring Yu Garden, I headed to the nearby City God Temple Snack Street, a paradise for food lovers. The stalls were brimming with delicacies like soup dumplings, pan-fried buns, and candied hawthorn skewers, filling the air with enticing aromas. I ordered a plate of authentic Dongpo Pork, a renowned dish with a glossy red hue, tender texture, and a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. The shop owner explained that the dish is made with premium pork belly, slow-cooked for hours with a secret sauce, faithfully recreating Su Dongpo's classic recipe. Unable to resist, I packed an extra portion to savor back at the hotel later that evening. On the third day, I visited Tianzifang, a maze of alleys brimming with artistic vibes. In the afternoon, I took the subway to Shanghai Disneyland. Though my time there was limited, the park's joyful atmosphere and captivating performances left me spellbound. As night fell, I watched a spectacular fireworks show at Disneyland, marking the perfect end to my trip. My solo trip to Shanghai allowed me to experience the city's diverse charm: its international vibrancy and its warm traditional culture.
